Senior Software Engineer – Automotive Systems Integration Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in enterprise software development, cloud-native applications, APIs, and automotive systems integration. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms, and embedded automotive software.

In this role, you will design and develop scalable software applications, microservices, and APIs while integrating vehicle communication networks, telematics systems, and connected vehicle technologies. You will collaborate with software, hardware, systems engineering, and validation teams to translate technical requirements into reliable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native and desktop applications supporting vehicle configuration and integration workflows.

  • Architect and implement microservices and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL.

  • Develop reusable frameworks and services for vehicle feature configuration, signal management, and integration workflows.

  • Ensure software performance, scalability, reliability, quality, and cybersecurity requirements are met.

  • Analyze vehicle feature requirements, product requirements documents, Gherkin scenarios, signal definitions, network specifications, and module interface documentation.

  • Translate vehicle capabilities and engineering requirements into software implementations and configuration logic.

  • Integrate automotive communication technologies, including CAN, CAN FD, J1939, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.

  • Collaborate with vehicle feature engineers, module owners, telematics teams, hardware teams, validation teams, and external suppliers.

  • Analyze vehicle architecture changes and assess their impact on software configuration models and integration workflows.

  • Develop and maintain high-level and detailed architecture designs for software components, APIs, integration services, and cloud-connected systems.

  • Design and integrate AI-enabled capabilities to improve configuration authoring, validation, and diagnostics.

  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and software architecture approaches for automotive systems.

  • Lead observability initiatives using service-level objectives (SLOs), service-level indicators (SLIs), dashboards, monitoring, and alerting.

  • Drive performance engineering, API governance, automated testing, test-driven development, and software quality practices.

  • Implement and promote CI/CD, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, and secure software development lifecycle practices.

  • Evaluate technical requirements and determine appropriate architecture patterns, technology stacks, integration approaches, deployment strategies, and data models.

  • Participate in system-level design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.

  • Mentor engineers, promote engineering best practices, and lead technical discussions across software, hardware, and systems engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise-scale systems.

  • 5–7 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot.

  • 3–5 years of experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React.

  • 3–5 years of experience with PostgreSQL.

  • 3–5 years of embedded software development and testing experience, including automotive industry experience.

  • 3–5 years of experience with Google Cloud Platform or related cloud technologies.

  • 5–7 years of experience designing and developing REST APIs.

  • Strong experience with API design, OpenAPI specifications, GraphQL, and integration patterns.

  • Experience building distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

  • Experience working with automotive communication networks, including CAN, CAN FD, J1939, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.

  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical architectures, body control systems, vehicle signals, message definitions, and communication protocols.

  • Familiarity with automotive telematics, gateways, telematics control units (TCUs), and connected vehicle systems.

  • Experience translating vehicle feature requirements into software solutions.

  • Experience with cloud-native development and related technologies, including Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.

  • Hands-on experience with development, automation, code quality, and deployment tools such as Jenkins, Tekton, Terraform, GitHub, SonarQube, JFrog, FOSSA, and 42Crunch.

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external suppliers.

  • Strong communication, technical leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical design decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fleet solutions, commercial vehicles, upfitter integration, body builder interfaces, or aftermarket equipment integration.

  • Familiarity with automotive electrical architecture concepts.

  • Knowledge of J1939 Parameter Group Numbers (PGNs), Suspect Parameter Numbers (SPNs), and heavy-duty vehicle communication standards.

  • Exposure to service-oriented vehicle architectures, OBD-II, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), vehicle data platforms, and cloud-connected vehicle ecosystems.

  • Experience with analytics and visualization platforms, vehicle diagnostic tools, and data acquisition systems.

  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture concepts.

  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity and functional safety concepts.

  • Experience working in Agile product development environments.
