About Us: Fireworks is the platform for specialized intelligence, enabling companies to build, train, and serve AI models tailored to their own data, workflows, and products. Founded by the team behind PyTorch and backed by AMD, Atreides, Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, Lightspeed, NVIDIA, Sequoia Capital, and TCV, Fireworks powers production AI with hundreds of state-of-the-art open models across text, image, embedding, audio, and multimodal workloads. Today, Fireworks is a Series D company valued at $17.5 billion, bringing together an ambitious, collaborative team that's building the future of enterprise AI. About the Role Fireworks AI is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to own and scale the company’s core accounting operations as the business grows rapidly. This role will be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the general ledger and month-end close, while building the processes, controls, and systems needed to support a high-growth AI infrastructure business. The Accounting Manager will partner closely with FP&A, Infrastructure, Engineering, Procurement, Legal, Tax, Payroll, and other cross-functional teams to ensure financial activity is properly recorded, reconciled, and reported. The ideal candidate is highly operational, technically strong, and comfortable working in an environment with significant cloud and infrastructure spend, rapidly evolving systems, large data volumes, and changing business requirements.
What You’ll Do
-
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
-
Manage and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leases, payroll-related accounts, intercompany activity, and other balance sheet accounts.
-
Maintain strong balance sheet integrity through detailed reconciliations, aging analysis, variance review, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
-
Develop and improve the company’s close calendar, reconciliation standards, and review controls to support a faster and more scalable close.
-
Partner with FP&A on monthly flux analysis, management reporting, and investigation of material budget-to-actual and period-over-period variances.
-
Own accounting for significant infrastructure and compute-related spend, including cloud hosting, GPU capacity, data center costs, prepaid commitments, vendor accruals, and other cost-of-revenue and operating expense activity.
-
Evaluate and document accounting treatment for capitalized software and internal-use technology under ASC 350-40, partnering with Engineering and FP&A to establish scalable project-level tracking and supporting documentation.
-
Manage the fixed asset lifecycle, including additions, depreciation, disposals, capitalization policies, and reconciliations.
-
Own accounting for leases under ASC 842, including new lease setup, modifications, amortization schedules, and related reconciliations.
-
Review procurement and vendor activity to ensure expenses are recorded in the correct period, entity, department, and account.
-
Partner with Procurement, AP, and business owners to improve the purchase-to-pay and accrual process, particularly for high-value infrastructure and technology vendors.
-
Develop and maintain accounting policies, process documentation, and internal controls across key GL areas.
-
Support the design of SOX-ready controls as the company matures, including preparation, review, approval, and evidence standards.
-
Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors for assigned GL areas and prepare audit-ready schedules, reconciliations, memos, and supporting documentation.
-
Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting workflows using ERP functionality, SQL/data tools, and AI-enabled processes.
-
Partner with Engineering and Data teams where accounting depends on operational data, ensuring source data used in accounting processes is complete, accurate, and reproducible.
-
Support ERP and accounting systems implementations, integrations, and enhancements as the company scales.
-
Assist with tax, insurance, compliance, due diligence, and other accounting projects as needed.
-
Review the work of accounting team members and help develop scalable team processes and operating standards.
What We’re Looking For
-
6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within high-growth technology, SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or similarly complex operating environments.
-
Strong experience owning the general ledger and month-end close.
-
Deep understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, leases, payroll accounting, and financial statement presentation.
-
Experience developing and improving accounting processes in a fast-growing organization.
-
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including familiarity with ASC 350-40 and ASC 842.
-
Experience supporting external audits and preparing high-quality accounting documentation.
-
Strong systems orientation and experience working with ERPs such as NetSuite.
-
Comfort working with large datasets and using tools such as SQL, BigQuery, reconciliation platforms, or other finance data tools.
-
Strong cross-functional communication skills and experience partnering with FP&A, Engineering, Procurement, Legal, Payroll, and business teams.
-
Ability to identify process gaps, design scalable solutions, and operate effectively with limited structure.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CPA eligibility preferred.
What Success Looks Like In the first 6–12 months, this person will have:
-
established a reliable, repeatable, and efficient month-end close;
-
improved the quality and consistency of balance sheet reconciliations;
-
built stronger controls around accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and infrastructure spend;
-
created scalable accounting processes for high-volume cloud and GPU-related vendor activity;
-
reduced manual accounting workflows through automation and better systems integration;
-
strengthened audit readiness and accounting documentation; and
-
created a GL environment that can support continued rapid growth without a proportional increase in manual accounting effort.
