Job Summary

We are seeking a Scientific Informatics Lead to drive chemistry-focused ELN and scientific data management solutions across discovery, medicinal chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and process chemistry functions. This role will partner closely with scientists, laboratory teams, informatics specialists, and technology stakeholders to translate complex laboratory workflows into scalable and reliable platform capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong chemistry domain expertise along with hands-on experience with Dotmatics Chemistry/ELN or comparable scientific informatics platforms. This position requires leadership across requirements gathering, workflow design, platform configuration, integrations, testing, deployment, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead requirements discovery for chemistry experiments, reactions, compounds, samples, inventory management, and scientific reporting processes.

  • Translate medicinal, synthetic, process, and discovery chemistry workflows into user stories, functional specifications, data mappings, and acceptance criteria.

  • Provide senior oversight for ELN configuration, workflow design, platform enhancements, testing, deployment readiness, defect resolution, and user support.

  • Design and optimize workflows supporting experiment capture, reaction management, chemical structures, stoichiometry calculations, compound registration, and inventory tracking.

  • Guide integrations with compound registration systems, inventory platforms, assay systems, analytical applications, laboratory instruments, and downstream data repositories.

  • Support scientific data governance, traceability, metadata management, reporting, and data quality initiatives.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including chemists, informatics specialists, validation teams, infrastructure, security, and product/vendor partners.

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, training materials, test evidence, release notes, operational procedures, and platform documentation.

  • Support platform modernization, migration, reporting, integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide technical and functional leadership to ensure ELN platforms effectively support chemistry research and development objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong domain expertise in medicinal chemistry, synthetic chemistry, process chemistry, chemical development, or discovery research.

  • Hands-on experience with Dotmatics Chemistry/ELN or comparable chemistry-focused ELN and scientific informatics platforms.

  • Strong understanding of experiment and reaction capture, chemical structures, compound registration, stoichiometry, analytical results, inventory management, and scientific data traceability.

  • Experience gathering requirements, configuring workflows, supporting functional testing, defect triage, controlled releases, and platform enhancements.

  • Proven ability to lead scientific informatics platforms beyond basic end-user support and administration.

  • Experience with Signals Notebook, BIOVIA ELN, IDBS, Benchling, PerkinElmer ELN, or similar laboratory informatics platforms is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, REST APIs, scientific data integrations, migrations, reporting, and data quality management.

  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical R&D, life sciences, laboratory informatics, or regulated research environments is highly desirable.

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $[132,000 -155,000] depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
