Summary:
As a Security System Technician – Commercial Install, you will be responsible for the installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of commercial electronic security systems, including intrusion detection, fire alarm, access control, and CCTV/video surveillance systems. The technician works closely with project managers, customers, and other trades to ensure systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable codes.
Responsibilities:
Installation, Programming & Commissioning
-
Install, terminate, program, test, and commission commercial intrusion detection, fire alarm, access control, and CCTV/video surveillance systems.
-
Install low-voltage cabling, control panels, card readers, cameras, locking hardware, door contacts, motion detectors, fire alarm devices, and related equipment.

Configure system software and hardware in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.

Program system controllers, field devices, and communication modules to support customer operational requirements.
-
Configure IP-based devices, including cameras, access control panels, network video recorders (NVRs), and associated network infrastructure.

Perform device addressing, network connectivity verification, firmware updates, and system database management.
-
Integrate security systems with third-party systems, including intercom, elevator control, visitor management, and building management platforms.
-
Interpret blueprints, site plans, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, and technical documentation.

Troubleshoot, repair, and resolve system issues during installation and system startup.
-
Verify all installations meet applicable local, state, and national codes, as well as company quality standards.

Conduct system testing, inspections, and customer demonstrations to ensure proper operation and acceptance.

Train end users on system functionality and basic operational procedures.
Project Execution

Complete installations within project timelines and budget expectations.

Coordinate work with customers, field supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and other trades.

Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, as-built drawings, and programming records.

Provide customer training on system operation and basic maintenance.
-
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
Safety & Compliance
-
Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
-
Adhere to NFPA, NEC, and local code requirements where applicable.

Properly use company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
-
Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer expectations.
Qualifications:
Required
-
High school diploma or GED.
-
Minimum 2 years of experience installing commercial security, fire alarm, access control, or CCTV systems.
-
Working knowledge of low-voltage wiring methods and installation practices.
-
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
-
Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
-
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
-
Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening.
Preferred:
-
Manufacturer certifications from industry-leading security platforms.
-
Knowledge of network fundamentals, IP addressing, and PoE devices.
-
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
-
NICET certification (Fire Alarm Systems) preferred.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.

Ability to work in construction environments, mechanical rooms, ceilings, and outdoor conditions.

Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
