Foth is seeking a Hydrogeologist /Hydrologist to support complex water resources and hydrogeology projects, with an emphasis on numerical groundwater and surface water modeling. This role is approximately 70% modeling and technical analysis and 30% field-based work, providing a strong balance between developing sophisticated models and gaining the field understanding needed to inform them. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply models that predict water quantity and quality and evaluate interactions with the surrounding environment, supporting projects from environmental review and permitting through operations. Much of the current work supports complex mining and natural resource projects at various stages of development, with opportunities to contribute to remediation projects and a growing range of hydrogeology work in the future.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply numerical groundwater flow and transport models to support project permitting, environmental review, industrial development, operations, and site remediation

  • Develop and apply surface water hydrology and hydraulic models to evaluate water quantity, water quality, and interactions with the surrounding environment

  • Perform quantitative analysis of hydrologic and hydrogeologic data, including probabilistic analysis and forecasting

  • Develop technical investigation plans for characterization of groundwater and surface water systems

  • Analyze groundwater systems in environments including unconsolidated deposits, sedimentary rock, and fractured crystalline rock

  • Develop technical reports and memos to support permitting and natural resource development projects

  • Conduct field investigations, including aquifer testing, surface water discharge gauging, and geologic logging/mapping

  • Analyze and incorporate field investigation data into hydrogeologic and hydrologic models

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists

  • Provide construction support and administration as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering

  • Professional experience performing hydrogeological and hydrologic investigations, analysis, and modeling, through internships, co-ops or professional experience

  • Technical writing and report preparation experience

  • Proficiency with groundwater and surface water modeling tools, such as MODFLOW/MT3D, FEFLOW, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XP-SWMM, or similar numerical codes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Geology, or a related field, with 2+ years of experience in water resources or hydrogeology, preferably supporting mining applications

  • Experience developing and applying numerical groundwater flow, constituent transport, and surface water hydrology/hydraulic models, including work in unconsolidated, sedimentary, fractured rock, and deep bedrock environments

  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing hydrogeologic and hydrologic field investigations, including packer testing, multi-well aquifer testing, and analysis of field and large data sets

  • Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis, statistical/probabilistic modeling, and time-series forecasting for hydrologic and hydrogeologic systems

  • Experience integrating hydrogeologic and hydrologic analyses with feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, and mine permitting efforts

  • Familiarity with NEPA processes and documentation and mine permitting in the United States
