The program operates on a cohort model, admitting one student cohort each calendar year. Students may select to pursue one of three pathways of study in the program that will advance their personal and professional goals. The pathways of study include EC-12 Educational Leadership in which the student may earn the Texas Superintendent Certificate, Higher Education Leadership, and Educational Business and Finance Leadership. The curriculum for each pathway requires the completion of 60 semester credit hours (SCHs) of coursework, inclusive of 48 SCHs of content-related coursework and 12 SCHs dedicated to writing and research. Options for specialized, advanced credentials and certificates are offered for those who elect to pursue them.

  • Contribute to doctoral program development, assessment, and continuous improvement

  • Participate in shared governance and program administration consistent with rank

  • Engage in developing and implementing service opportunities consistent with the mission of the program, department, and college

  • Weekly In-Person, On-campus (Canyon and/or Amarillo, Texas) office hours and engagement are required

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership or a closely related field

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in EC–12 or higher education leadership positions or related leadership contexts that may include business and finance

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service

  • Evidence of an active research agenda and scholarly productivity appropriate to rank

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and commitment to doctoral education

  • Proven ability to effectively mentor doctoral students, particularly in empirical research

  • Demonstrated strong instructional effectiveness in fully online learning environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous instructional effectiveness in doctoral level content courses

  • Previous service as Chair of scholarly delivery committees (e.g., dissertation or doctoral research committees)

  • Experience working in rural educational contexts

  • Experience or expertise in teaching the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence as it relates to research design, analysis, and scholarly writing

  • Experience providing effective administrative leadership within a doctoral program

  • Certified Texas superintendent
