Full job description

Description

Innovative client in the distribution field seeks an Assistant Buyer who can support the purchasing department with sourcing, vendor management, order processing, and inventory coordination. The responsibilities for this role will include purchasing initiatives, inventory maintenance/control, coordinating and ensuring a timely delivery process, reviewing new business initiatives, negotiating competitive pricing, and assisting with supplier selection. The ideal Assistant Buyer is someone who enjoys working with vendors, identifying purchasing opportunities, and managing multiple orders in a fast-paced wholesale environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain inventory levels with established guidelines

  • Build, audit and execute material requirements

  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships, communicating regularly regarding product availability, pricing, quantities, and order requirements

  • Inspect material usage trends to assist management in concluding optimal inventory targets

  • Assist customer service with purchase order authorizations

  • Work closely with the warehouse and receiving teams to coordinate incoming merchandise and address shipment-related issues

  • Assist with price and term negotiations under the guidance of the Senior Buyer.

  • Generate special order request as needed

Requirements

The ideal Assistant Buyer will preferably have a Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration.

Other requirements for the Assistant Buyer role include and are not limited to:

  • 1-3 years of experience in buying, purchasing and/or merchandising

  • Wholesale/Distribution industry experience preferred

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills with the ability to manage multiple vendors

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn purchasing and inventory management systems

  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
