Head of Human Resources (HR)

San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS), a San Antonio, Texas based privately held company, has been in business for over 40 years and has developed a reputation as a premier American manufacturer of high quality comfort footwear.
Position
SAS has an opening for a Head of Human Resources who will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The individual in this role will be responsible for activities including HR, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Benefits, Events, and Facility Maintenance/Carpenter Shop.
Job Responsibilities
-
Provides strategic leadership, direction and management of the HR, EHS, Benefits, Events and Facility Maintenance/Carpenter Shop teams

Ensures team leaders have the appropriate skills and knowledge to guide their respective teams
-
Plans, designs and develops strategic HR plans, policies and initiatives that align with the business’ mission and strategy
-
Oversees all HR, EHS and Benefit operations and compliance requirements companywide
-
Serves as a knowledgeable resource to the management team that provides overall company training, leadership and direction
-
Establishes metrics and analysis to drive the organization to become more effective and efficient
-
Leads and develops all department staff members by assessing training needs to create and deliver appropriate training programs
-
Builds strong relationships with employees and management to help drive company strategy and to promote a high level of employee morale

Assesses benefits structure and make recommendations for standardization/optimization
-
Promotes a high level of professional standards, positive interpersonal relations and utilizes a neutral problem-solving approach in all situations
-
Possesses the ability to make independent decisions and handle difficult workplace situations in a calm and discreet manner.

Ensures legal compliance in the applicable areas of responsibility

Oversees Affirmative Action Plans development and tracking

Coordinates company events and employee activity programs
-
Ability to travel frequently as needed but at a minimum a monthly day trip to Del Rio
Job Qualifications

Strong knowledge of HR policies and employment regulations
-
Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring skills and qualities
-
Capable to take the lead on projects and coordinate teams to see project to completion
-
Ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities

Strong internal customer service, relationship building, problem solving and follow through skills

Practice and maintain a high level of confidentiality

Self-starter that desires to take initiative

Ability to work well with a team or autonomously

Respectful and caring to co-workers and subordinates

Must be able to plan and organize time efficiently
Physical Requirements:
-
Able to sit or stand for 8 -10 hours.
-
Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer
-
Consistently be able to operate a computer
Education & Experience Requirements
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Business/HR Management or equivalent work experience with HR certification.
-
At least 7 years of HR experience with an emphasis on employee relations, compensation & benefits, recruitment, organizational development.
-
Knowledge of payroll and HCM systems. ADP and Leadtec experience preferred.
-
Experience in workers compensation and safety programs preferred.
-
Computer proficient in Microsoft- Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
-
Skilled at searching the internet for business information using tools as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Bing, etc.

Excellent communication skills.
-
Bilingual in both English and Spanish, preferred.

Must have valid passport and the ability to travel to Mexico.
