Full job description
Commercial Lines Account Manager (Remote, Greater Atlanta, GA) Compensation: $75,000 – $85,000 base Location: Remote. You must live in the greater Atlanta area (or within driving distance in the Southeast) for occasional travel to member agencies.
About the Opportunity An insurance cooperative serving 50+ independent property & casualty agencies is looking for a Commercial Lines Account Manager to be the go-to market resource for its member agents. This is an advisory “traffic cop” role rather than a traditional production role. Agents come to you when they need a market they don’t have, and you point them to the right carrier, MGA, or wholesaler. Member agencies typically have about 20 markets of their own and come to the cooperative when none of those fit. You are the last stop, not the first. Leadership measures success by responsiveness, agent trust, and how well you absorb the knowledge of the brokers around you. Production numbers and hit ratio are not the yardstick, because the agent directs the business.
What You’ll Do
- Field questions like “Do you have a market for this?” and “Any ideas on this risk?” and point agents to the right carrier, MGA, or wholesaler
- Review and qualify commercial submissions, then match them to markets based on appetite, coverage needs, and pricing goals
- Build placement plans for new business, renewals, and hard-to-place accounts
- Manage submission activity and negotiate terms with underwriters and wholesalers
- Help agencies package and present accounts so they are more marketable
- Stay on top of carrier appetite shifts, underwriting changes, and market trends
- Build and maintain relationships with carriers, MGAs, and wholesale brokers
- Advocate for member agencies in underwriting conversations and keep communication moving between carriers and agencies so issues get resolved quickly
- Support carrier meetings and partnership initiatives
- Act as a trusted advisor to member agencies on market access and placement strategy
- Coach agents on coverage enhancements, risk presentation, and what underwriters expect
- Help with complex and specialty commercial risks
- Educate agents on carrier appetites, market conditions, and submission best practices
- Keep records of placement activity, carrier interactions, and outcomes
- Help track premium growth, hit ratios, and carrier production
- Work with the internal team on network initiatives, carrier programs, and member engagement
What They're Looking For
- 3–5 years placing commercial lines business with multiple carriers- A MUST!
- Agency-side background, ideally as an account manager who has actually marketed accounts, not just serviced them
- Direct negotiating experience with underwriters and wholesalers
- Solid working knowledge of Property, GL, WC, Auto, Umbrella, and Professional Liability
- Ability to read a risk and match it to the right market
- Active P&C license
- Presentable and comfortable meeting with agency owners and agents, and representing the cooperative’s resources and partnerships
- Based in the Southeast within driving distance of Atlanta
- Software: Agency management system (Applied Epic or AMS360 experience is most transferable), CRM, carrier rating platforms and portals, Microsoft Office
Compensation and Benefits
- $75,000 – $85,000 base salary
- 100% employer-paid medical insurance premiums
- 401(k) with employer match
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Expense reimbursement
