Full job description
** Extramural/Administrative Functions: ** Consulting for outside organizations and institutions. Acting as an editor reviewer and/or as a grant and manuscript reviewer. Lecturing for external courses, attending and/or presenting in off-site conferences. Serving on review committees, professional committees and/or participating in site visits.
** Administrative: ** Time spent developing budgets, participation in employee reviews, serving on institutional committees, and supervising/mentoring non-research staff such as analyst, programmers and administrative staff.
** Research Function ** : Conducts research in experimental protocol development/optimization, experimental design, and/or biointerpretation in relation to genomic, proteomic, pharmacological and cell line/animal studies. The research and analysis are performed in association with Prof. Han Liang, Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, often in collaboration with other bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, preclinical researchers, and clinical investigators at UT MD Anderson and/or other institutions in the public and private sectors. Uses existing literature, computers, oral and written consultation, laboratory experiments, and own knowledge for methodological research, while consulting and collaborating with mathematicians, biostatisticians, bioinformaticians, clinicians, basic scientists, programmers, and data management staff. May develop and/or refine new experimental protocols for collecting and assessing genomic, gene expression, proteomic, metabolomic, and/or pharmacological data. May develop new cell line and animal models for validating biological hypotheses and to further the discovery of new drugs and biomarkers for personalization of cancer management.
Develops and applies experimental methods, cell line and animal models both for basic scientific purposes and to further the discovery of drugs and biomarkers for personalization of cancer management. Participates in collaborative research ventures with biostatisticians, bioinformaticians, clinical scientists, and preclinical scientists. Supervises statistical analysts and programmers.
** Educational Function: ** Educational activities can include any one or all of the following listed examples: administration of instructional programs, earning certificates, attending lectures, teaching in courses, presenting in educational conferences. Presentations, programs and seminar participation are all important parts of the educational functions. Trainee mentoring and supervising is regularly required.
