Full job description

As a Corporate Paralegal at Renuity, you will play an important role in providing support and general good judgment to our General Counsel and management team, including conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing documents, and assisting with the management of dispute resolution.

What You'll Do: Research

  • Conducting thorough legal research on various issues related to the home improvement industry, including construction law, state-by-state licensing requirements, and various aspects of selling products directly to consumers.

  • Maintain up-to-date matrixes of various state requirements.

  • Reviewing and summarizing regulations to provide accurate and concise summaries to management and other departments. (Occasionally the same for long legal documents.)

Document Drafting – Preparation & Revision

  • Drafting and preparing legal documents such as state licensing applications and lien filings.

  • Assisting in the management of litigation and dispute resolution, including developing response strategy, preparing, and responding to discovery requests, and participating in arbitrations.

  • Assisting business lines in response to routine customer non-payment matters.

  • Managing the response to routine insurance subpoenas and wage garnishments.

  • Apply checklists to a variety of documents including leases, NDAs, and Certificates of Insurance.

General Management and Support

  • Communicating with internal business leaders, government agencies, and outside counsel to ensure all necessary information is exchanged in a timely and professional manner.

  • Keeping accurate and organized records of legal documents and case information, including electronic databases the progress state of negotiations, and maintaining the company's legal files and records.

  • Assisting with compliance and regulatory matters, including ensuring that the company is in compliance with relevant state and federal laws and regulations, particularly in relation to state corporate and trade licenses.

  • Performing other duties as assigned by attorneys or management, such as legal research, document preparation, and general administrative tasks.

What You'll Bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal in a legal setting minimum

  • 5-10 years of as a paralegal in a legal setting – a plus

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to details

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other legal software

  • Experience working in highly regulated and/or licensed industries.

  • Above-average judgment and a willingness to think about “why” we are doing something

  • The pride that comes from a job well done

Preferable to include:

  • Experience working in a business-to-consumer context

  • Experience preparing mechanics lien filings in various states

  • Ability to “manage up” – we are a busy organization and occasionally this person will need to find ways to grab the GC’s attention for certain matters

  • Paralegal certificate or associate degree in paralegal studies

  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, as well as experience with legal research databases.

  • Creativity, resourcefulness, and a mindset of constant improvement
