Senior Software Engineer

Black River Systems Company, a small, established research-oriented engineering firm headquartered in Utica, NY, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer. We are looking for someone who will be technically responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments in the area or areas of research, design, development, testing and evaluation. They will make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have a major impact on extensive engineering activities. This position technically supports multiple Black River government programs and a qualified candidate can lead a technical team to deliver solutions for our customers in technical areas, which include but are not limited to software development for high performance computers, modeling and simulation of sensor systems, software tool development, visualization of data and algorithms, and real-time embedded processing. A successful candidate will need to demonstrate creativity, foresight, mature engineering judgment. They will promote their technical expertise outside of the company through briefings, participation in government working groups, published papers, and symposiums. In addition, this candidate will lead program teams and facilitate the communication and interaction amongst the functional representatives. Position Requirements: * Masters degree in computer science, mathematics, computer engineering or related field is required. * 20+ years professional experience in software development. * Previous program management experience strongly desired. Solid communication, documentation, and collaborative/teamwork skills. * Applied knowledge in object-oriented design and multi-threaded programming is desirable. * Engineering skills in one or more languages widely used for software development (e.g. C/C++, Java, Rust, and/or Go) is desirable. * Applied knowledge in Docker, Containerization, and Linux * US citizenship - must have or be eligible for a Department of Defense security clearance.
