Full job description

SCPS is hiring a part-time teaching professor at the Assistant or Associate rank at .5 to .75 FTE depending on the candidate and program need, to teach and help design courses in data-informed decision-making across its graduate and undergraduate certificate programs (https://www.scps.virginia.edu/programs) and the new Master of Change Management degree (https://www.scps.virginia.edu/programs/online-master-change-management-degree) (MCM).

This is a non-tenure track, general faculty position. This is a remote position, with preference for individuals able to attend occasional in-person meetings and events held in or near Charlottesville, Virginia.

An early focus for this role is designing and teaching PSCM 6040: Data-Driven Decision Making for Change, a core course in the MCM degree, planned for its first offering in summer 2027. Beyond that course, this position may teach existing and new offerings connected to SCPS's broader certificate portfolio, and may help build new courses as need and demand emerge.

We're especially interested in candidates who have applied or designed data-informed decision-making tools within change management or project management work, rather than data or analytics experience on its own. Relevant learning outcomes relate to supporting manager and leader decision-making as opposed to technical system development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and teach PSCM 6040: Data-Driven Decision Making for Change, with an initial offering planned for summer 2027. Course description is available on the MCM webpage (https://www.scps.virginia.edu/programs/online-master-change-management-degree) .

  • Teach existing and new courses connected to data-informed decision-making across SCPS's graduate and undergraduate certificate programs.

  • Contribute to new course development in this area as SCPS's offerings grow.

  • Collaborate with SCPS faculty and instructional designers on course design and delivery.

  • Stay current on tools and practices in applied data analysis for change and project management contexts.

Required Qualifications

  • A relevant terminal degree in the social sciences with expertise in data science, analytics, statistics, operations research, information systems, or a related field.

  • Experience applying or designing data-informed decision-making tools to support planning and evaluation, ideally in change management or project management contexts.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching or training, ideally online.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing new courses or curriculum in data analytics or a related area

  • Familiarity with SCPS's certificate portfolio or similar adult-learner, professional-certificate contexts

  • Relevant professional or industry certifications

  • Experience teaching across more than one subject area or course

Apply online at the UVA Careers website and include a cover letter, a current CV, a sample syllabus from a course you've designed or taught and contact information for three professional references.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by October 1, 2026.

Salary is calculated as a percentage of a standard full-time base rate, prorated to FTE, and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
