Full job description

We are currently hiring swim lesson instructors to conduct group and private swim lessons for participants of all ages. Certification and training is available at no cost to the employee.

Part-time/Various shifts available

Applications will be reviewed throughout the recruitment period

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision of all facility areas. Enforces facility policies and procedures.

  • Communicating with other facility staff about the need for additional assistance or equipment in an emergency.

  • Report suspicious activities to supervisors.

  • Enforcing rules and regulations of the facility. Educating and informing patrons of the rules and regulations of the pool as necessary.

  • Complete progress reports or certificates for every student in the class and have parents fill out an evaluation form.

  • Complete accurate reports related to sessions and submit them to management in a timely manner.

  • Provide a safe, clean and organized environment for patrons.

  • Attend regular meetings and training sessions.

  • In case of an emergency, notify the appropriate agency as dictated by the emergency.

  • Communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and co-workers.

  • Introduce yourself to participants and their parents and be willing to discuss their child's progress.

  • Always maintain safety. Never leave class unattended.

  • Set class expectations before the start of lessons and enforce those expectations.

  • Follows protocols for opening and closing of the facility.

  • Perform other related duties as requested or assigned by the Manager of Aquatics or Recreation Programmer-Aquatics.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

All candidates must possess the certifications below, or have the ability to obtain them before beginning employment. If not already obtained certification will be provided at no cost to employees once hired.

  • Certification in Starfish Swimming Curriculum.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment in-water practical skills test.

  • Ability to demonstrate Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, and Elementary Backstroke.

  • Ability to tread water for 1 minute.

  • For older levels, the ability to demonstrate front standing dive, open turns, and flip turns.

  • Ability to demonstrate surface dive and swim underwater for 10 yards.

  • Have general knowledge of all levels and follow all guidelines of our swim lesson curriculum.

  • Experience – Prior experience in the area of swim instruction is preferred but not required.

SKILLS, MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills – Clear communication skills required. Ability to provide supervision to assigned areas of the facility. Maintain positive relationships with members and patrons.

Mental Requirements – Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment. Communicate effectively with patrons. Ability to respond and act in an emergency situation.

Physical Requirements - Must be able to stand for prolonged periods; must be able to walk frequently; must be able to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and use general office equipment. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Basic swimming ability including treading water for a period of time is required.

Supervisory Responsibility – No direct supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position
