Department: Survey

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Location: Houston, Texas

Position Overview:

The Director of Oil & Gas is responsible for leading and growing Landpoint's surveying and geospatial business in the Oil & Gas market, serving upstream producers, midstream pipeline and gathering operators, downstream and terminal owners, and the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms that support them. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and based in Houston, this position combines deep industry relationships with market strategy, financial accountability, and business development leadership.

This individual will own the Oil & Gas client portfolio and its revenue, backlog, and margin results, secure master service agreements (MSAs) and project awards, and partner closely with Operations to ensure that what Landpoint sells is delivered safely, accurately, and profitably. The role requires a hands-on leader who is equally credible with operator executives and field crews. The ideal candidate brings an established network across Oil & Gas operators and a record of building a market or business unit within a professional services firm.

Key Responsibilities

    • Partner with the COO to establish and execute the Oil & Gas market strategy, including target clients, basins, service lines, staffing, and geographic expansion.
  • Responsible for market specific performance, including revenue, backlog, gross margin, win rate, and forecast accuracy; partner with the CFO and COO on budgets, billing, and accounts receivable.

Business Development

    • Lead new-client acquisition across upstream, midstream, and downstream operators and their EPC and engineering partners; build and manage a qualified opportunity pipeline in Landpoint's CRM.
  • Secure approved-vendor status and MSAs,and grow existing accounts by extending Landpoint's full survey and geospatial offering across each client's organization.

  • Expand Landpoint's Oil & Gas service lines, including well location staking and plats, pipeline route and alignment surveys, ROW and easement surveys and exhibits, construction staking and as-builts, facility and compressor station surveys, and GIS, UAV/LiDAR, and pipeline records support.

Client Relationship Management

    • Serve as the executive point of contact for key Oil & Gas clients, maintaining relationships across land, engineering, construction, and supply chain leadership, and resolving escalated client issues with Operations.
  • Direct proposals, bids, rate sheets, and RFP responses; negotiate MSAs, rate schedules, and project agreements with the COO, Finance, and legal counsel to protect scope, schedule, and margin.

  • Represent Landpoint at industry associations, conferences, and client events, and provide regular updates to executive leadership on market performance, pipeline, client relationships, risks, and growth opportunities.

Team Leadership

    • Recruit, mentor, and develop Oil & Gas business development and market project leadership staff, and collaborate with Electric Utilities, Renewables, and Civil leaders to share clients, resources, and best practices.
  • Ensure project staff communicate schedules, progress, budget issues, and change orders promptly to the customer, and oversee technical work so it meets Landpoint’s quality standards.

  • Hold project staff accountable for timely, accurate invoicing, including review of billing against contract terms, approved change orders, and percent complete, and for resolving billing discrepancies promptly.

Collaboration and Partnerships

    • Champion Landpoint's On Point With Safety culture with clients and crews; partner with the Director of QHSE to maintain client prequalification (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce), Operator Qualification, and site access requirements.
  • Align sales commitments with crew capacity, equipment, and licensed surveyor availability; oversee the hand-off from award to execution and stay engaged on major projects through closeout.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Surveying/Geomatics, Energy Management, or a related field; MBA or equivalent industry experience considered.
  • 10+ years of Oil & Gas industry experience, including 5+ years in business development, account management, or market leadership for surveying, geospatial, engineering, or energy field services.

  • Established relationships with upstream and midstream operators and EPC firms, with a proven record of winning MSAs and growing accounts.

  • Demonstrated success owning revenue and margin targets, pricing, proposal development, and contract negotiation.

  • Strong working knowledge of Oil & Gas survey and geospatial deliverables and the regulatory, permitting, and land processes that drive them; Texas RPLS, SIT, or a surveying background preferred.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the executive presence to engage clients from the field to the boardroom.

  • Regular travel required (approximately 30-40%).
