Summary:
The Materials Management Technician inventories and resupplies medical supply inventories in multiple departments throughout the hospital. Provides clean and functional patient care equipment to all clinical areas.
Responsibilities:
- Organizes own work activities to ensure their proper completion in a timely manner.

a. Manages time effectively by assigning priority to work activities.

b. Adheres to the procedural guidelines recorded within the Standard of Work for Materials Management Technicians.

c. Understands the importance of their role to the overall success of the hospital.

· Completes duties in a timely and efficient manner. Prioritizes responsibilities to ensure completion of duties. Demonstrates knowledge of the overall function of the Materials Management Department.
- Inventories and restocks PAR locations according to predetermined inventory levels.

. Inventories supplies maintained on PAR carts daily or when scheduled to determine supply needs.

a. Picks the supplies necessary to replenish the PAR levels for the different inventory locations.

b. Assures that the correct supplies are neatly stocked in the correct quantities and that charge labels are attached when necessary.

· PAR locations are accurately inventoried and restocked on a regular basis to ensure adequate supplies are readily available for clinical staff.
- Assists with inventory auditing processes to ensure the accuracy of the hospital’s supply chain operation.

. Perform weekly/monthly cycle count activities in the Central Store Room and all other PAR locations managed by the Materials Management dept.

a. Evaluate expiration dates in the Central Store Room and all other PAR locations managed by the Materials Management dept.

· Periodic cycle counting and expiration date checks help maintain the accuracy of inventory levels and confirms the value of inventory on hand. These processes help align the physical count with what is recorded in the Materials Management Information System.
- Maintains a sufficient inventory of clean, functional equipment.

. Inspects equipment daily for any damage or missing parts.

a. Transports damaged equipment to Clinical Engineering for repair.

b. Cleans equipment with appropriate chemicals necessary to sanitize equipment safely and effectively.

c. Bands cleaned equipment for easy identification.

· A sufficient inventory of equipment is maintained at all times in a logical, systematic, and clearly labeled order.
- Delivers and retrieves patient equipment as needed.

. Performs daily checks of nursing areas to collect equipment in need of cleaning and/or service.

a. Transports equipment safely.

· Equipment is transported in a safe manner. Nursing areas are checked throughout day for recovery.
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
- Experience in the areas of Materials Management or nursing would be beneficial.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Simple mathematical skills, basic computer skills, effective communication skills, and manual dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to chemicals utilized in equipment cleaning.
Exposure to airborne pathogens.
Potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Standing and/or sitting for long periods of time, lifting, pushing and pulling equipment.
