General Responsibility Perform a variety of specialized coding duties to assist the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Indices as required by state and federal law. Process and maintain the NICS Indices to include researching, entering, updating, and correcting entries efficiently and accurately.

Specific Duties• Review, research, and process probate court adjudications for entry into the NICS Indices pursuant to the Mental Health Reporting Bill. Enter prohibited persons into the NICS Indices for all state and federal prohibiting categories as prescribed by law.

  • Query the Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) and Armed Security Guard Databases for individuals entered into the NICS Indices for revocation.

  • Perform quality assurance that all entries are correct with supporting documentation. Obtain required documentation pursuant to the Mental Health Reporting Bill.

  • Keep up to date on proper research, coding procedures, laws, legislation, and policies to ensure accurate and complete information is added to the NICS Indices with the proper supporting documentation.

  • Review, research, and respond to the FBI or Point of Contact States regarding U21s in the time frame required.

  • High school diploma.

  • Must have prior clerical experience. Relevant work experience or education may be substituted.

  • Must successfully complete NCIC Full Function Certification within six (6) months of hire.

  • Must be able to exercise good judgement and discretion in handling arrest, judicial, and custody information.

  • Must be able to answer phone calls from the public and other agencies in a professional manner.

  • Travel statewide, including overnight travel may be required.
