Design Leader, Emerging Products (Asana Service Management & Command by Asana)

Asana Design is an inclusive and collaborative community of designers from diverse backgrounds dedicated to designing the future of teamwork. We are looking for a hands-on Design Leader to shape two of our emerging products: Asana Service Management and Command by Asana. In this 0→1 leadership role, you will thrive in early-stage ambiguity, partner closely with product, engineering, and research leadership to define the product design vision, and personally craft experiences that drive product-market fit. You will also represent design in strategic forums with senior and executive leadership, driving outsized impact on company-level investments and roadmaps. This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements. What you’ll achieve

  • Own the end-to-end design strategy and product vision across Asana Service Management and Command by Asana, driving directly toward product-market fit.

  • Stay hands-on in the design craft, balancing speed and quality to determine when to iterate rapidly with prototypes and when to execute deep design investment.

  • Integrate AI tools into the design workflow and champion thoughtful, human-centered, AI-powered product experiences.

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-leverage, globally distributed product design team as these product spaces grow.

  • Partner closely with Experience Research to deeply understand and validate problem spaces across target IT, HR, and developer personas.

  • Establish design quality bars and scalable patterns suited for early-stage 0→1 products while maintaining alignment with Asana’s overall design system.

  • Represent design in reviews and strategic discussions with senior leadership and executives, providing a clear point of view to guide company-level decisions.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with General Managers, Product Managers, and Engineering leads to align roadmaps with user needs.

About you

  • Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.

  • Proven track record leading product design from 0→1, successfully navigating ambiguity to achieve product-market fit.

  • Demonstrated experience hiring, coaching, and developing product design teams within fast-paced, evolving environments.

  • Strong systems thinker with expertise in cross-functional collaboration alongside engineering, product management, and research.

  • Credible communicator with experience presenting strategic design rationale, roadmap trade-offs, and product vision to executive leadership.

  • Fluency with emerging AI tools and techniques applied both to design workflows and product features.

  • Familiarity or experience with service management workflows (e.g., ticketing, incident management, ITSM/ESM) or developer-facing products and platforms.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply. What we’ll offer
