Full job description

Reporting to the Manager of Life Design Operations, we are seeking a Learning Experience Strategist to be a highly consultative, human-centered-design-oriented professional responsible for driving the strategy, sequencing, and delivery of enterprise learning initiatives across Johns Hopkins University. The Learning Experience Strategist will work across the Center for Staff Life Design and the university to identify, prioritize, and execute a backlog of professional development projects, including courses, training programs, and experiential learning opportunities. The Strategist will collaborate closely with subject matter experts, HR leaders, Life Design Consultants, and university stakeholders to design and implement scalable solutions that support staff professional growth, leadership development, and internal mobility. The Strategist will blend human-centered design, strategic consulting, learning design, technology and AI proficiency, and program execution to advance the Center for Staff Life Design’s mission of empowering staff through life design frameworks and innovative professional development.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Human-Centered Design and Backlog Management (80%)

  • Engage university stakeholders as a consultative partner to assess skills gaps, pain points, and learning objectives and align development initiatives to institutional priorities.

  • Maintain, outline, strategize, and actively manage a backlog of skill development initiatives, including courses, training programs, and leadership development experiences.

  • Partner with senior leadership, HR, and cross-functional teams to prioritize learning initiatives based on strategic impact and staff needs.

  • Partner with life design and organizational development consultants to support skill development programming within life design frameworks.

  • Translate stakeholder input and organizational strategy into sequenced learning roadmaps and development plans.

  • Identify opportunities for scalable learning solutions that support career growth, internal mobility, and life design competencies.

  • Design, develop, and implement innovative learning experiences across multiple modalities, including in-person, virtual, asynchronous, and hybrid formats.

  • Apply human-centered design, service design methodologies, and best-practice user experience principles to create engaging and effective staff upskilling and reskilling programs.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to convert expertise into structured learning content aligned to defined competencies and outcomes.

  • Develop digital learning assets using tools such as Figma, Articulate 360, Adobe Suite, Canva, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Menti, Eightfold, ElevenLabs, NotebookLM, and comparable learning technologies.

Facilitation, Engagement, and Delivery (10%)

  • Facilitate workshops, trainings, and learning experiences for staff across the university.

  • Support the delivery of professional development events, ensuring high levels of participant engagement and satisfaction.

  • Build communities of practice and foster a culture of continuous learning.

Evaluation, Continuous Improvement and Operations (10%)

  • Leverage and develop evaluation strategies and metrics to assess learning effectiveness and impact.

  • Use data and feedback to continuously improve learning programs and refine backlog priorities.

  • Partner with leadership to forecast learning needs and recommend future development investments.

  • Ensure alignment with accessibility standards, including ADA and WCAG, and institutional best practices.

  • Produce user experience and discovery briefs to support adaptation and iteration of learning strategy and features.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.

  • Three years of experience in human-centered design, product design, UXdesign, learning program management, or professional development programming.

  • Experience working in a consultative capacity with stakeholders to design and deliver learning solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience designing digital learning experiences using tools such as Articulate 360 or similar platforms.

  • Experience facilitating workshops, trainings, or professional development programs.

  • Experience with human-centered design, life design, or user experience methodologies.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or advanced degree in a subject that uses human-centered design, such as UX design, learning design, innovation, service design, product design, life design, organizational development, fine arts, hospitality services, learning technology, or a similar field.

  • Advanced proficiency with Articulate 360 and other digital course-authoring tools.

  • Experience supporting leadership development programs, upskilling initiatives, or professional skills development programs.

  • Strong consulting, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to translate complex concepts into accessible, engaging learning experiences.

  • Experience working across diverse stakeholder groups in a large, decentralized organization.

Starting Salary Range: $55,145 - $96,760 Annually ($80,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
