Full job description

Job Summary:

As a leader of the health care team, provides professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan of the Organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect. Coordinates and monitors care of patients in the assigned clinic area. Accountable for traveling within a Zone and/or reasonable geographical area.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • 100% Travel.

  • Administers all oral and injecting medications in the assigned clinical area.

  • Ensures narcotics and drug supplies are available in the assigned clinic and assures the proper security of all narcotics and controlled substances according to KP standards and applicable regulatory laws.

  • Initiates and monitors IV therapy to therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

  • Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies.

  • Responds to emergency situations throughout medical facility.

  • Documents emergency situations to supervisor.

  • Coordinates, implements, and evaluates patient teaching plans for area of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instructions, weight control, and other areas as designated.

  • Set-up, performs, and/or assists with procedures as appropriate.

  • Documents all care given and actions taken on behalf of the patient in KP Health Connect.

  • Coordinates recovery care of patients post sedation.

  • Ensures safety measure are instituted for all compromised patients receiving care.

  • Triages walk-in patients as needed or assigned.

  • Engages in positive interactions with Kaiser Permanente members, visitors, and fellow staff members at all times.

  • Supervises patient flow and directs other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care within the Health Care Team.

  • Acts as a resource person to LPNs and Clinical Assistants.

  • Acts as patient advocate and resolves problems within Health Care Team.

  • Brings unresolved issues to Clinical Managers attention if unresolved with the team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Primary zone is South Baltimore: includes traveling to our South Baltimore, Woodlawn, North Arundel, Annapolis, and Columbia Gateway medical centers.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of current experience in HMO or ambulatory setting is required.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.

License, Certification, Registration

  • This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.

  • Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire

OR

  • Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire

  • Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire

  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

Additional Requirements:

  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Effective communication (written and oral) skills.

  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Must be flexible, embrace frequent changing priorities and workflows in a positive and gracious manner.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in IV therapy is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • American Heart Association ACLS preferred

  • American heart Association PALS preferred

  • BSN Preferred.
