Join Our Team Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Tech to join our Transfusion Services (Blood Bank) team on a full-time evening shift. This role is ideal for a laboratory professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality diagnostic testing and contributing to exceptional patient care.
Job Summary The Laboratory Tech performs a variety of laboratory testing procedures within Transfusion Services, ensuring accurate and timely results that support patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include analyzing specimens, interpreting and documenting results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to all regulatory and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing and analysis in Transfusion Services/Blood Bank.
- Accurately interpret, document, and report test results.
- Follow established laboratory policies, procedures, and quality control standards.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and laboratory team members to support patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.
Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Science, Physical Science, Biological Science, or Medical Laboratory Science required.
Certification
- ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification required.
Experience
- Previous Transfusion Services/Blood Bank experience preferred.
