Full job description

Founded in 2009, Zest AI has been pioneering innovative AI technology with a mission to expand credit access to create opportunities for more Americans to pursue their financial goals. Zest AI is transforming the $17 trillion US consumer credit market by delivering AI technology that helps lenders identify creditworthy borrowers overlooked by traditional methods, while leveling the playing field so financial institutions of all sizes can harness AI to provide better lending experiences.

With over 50 issued and pending patents across automation, accuracy, performance, and model explainability, Zest AI is a leader in financial technology, providing financial institutions with AI tools that create a more resilient US financial system and a stronger U.S. economy. With over 600 active AI models, financial institutions rely on Zest AI's comprehensive suite of solutions spanning marketing, underwriting, fraud detection, lending intelligence, and more to make smarter lending decisions while improving profitability. This US-based technology as a service company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

This role is the backend support and development engine for our Underwriting and Zest Protect (fraud) onboarding. You will learn how our models are built, maintained, and refreshed; run and develop the analyses that support both products; and scale that work into the deliverables our clients actually see - app review write-ups, cutoff analyses, credit policy builds, and quarterly business review decks. You will own the ticket queue and keep our CRM (Planhat) current, and you will become fluent in the internal tooling stack well enough to troubleshoot it when it breaks. The work is analytical, fast-moving, and tied to real client deadlines. We will teach you the domain; you bring the curiosity, the organization, and the communication skills to absorb it quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how our credit models are built, maintained, and refreshed - how a client's data becomes a custom model, what a credit model upgrade changes, how scores are scaled and calibrated, and what monitoring says about drift and performance
  • Run and develop analysis for our underwriting product: application reviews, cutoff and tier analysis, approval and automation rates, swap-set and score distribution work, and credit lending guideline builds
  • Run and develop analysis for Zest Protect, our fraud product: fraud application reviews, flag and stipulation rates, false positive investigation, and threshold back-testing across our three fraud models
  • Turn report output into client-facing deliverables - decks, ROI and proof-of-concept analyses, and written explanations of individual application decisions that lending executivescan read once and act on
  • Manage intake and tickets across our Jira boards, keep CRM records current, hold due dates, and chase stalled dependencies before they run late
  • Troubleshoot internal tooling, and file reproducible bug reports when something breaks. Catching a number that is silently wrong matters as much as catching a crash
  • Partner daily with Client Success, Engagement Managers, Account Executives, Modeling, Data Science, Deployment, and Client Ops, translating client questions into the right internal ask and internal answers into plain English
  • Build and improve the AI-assisted workflows our team uses for reporting, deck generation, and analysis

We are looking for:

  • Ideally one year of experience in an analytical role - financial services, lending, fintech, consulting, or data analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, business, or analytical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong communication skills. You write clearly, ask precise questions, escalate early, and can explain a technical result to a non-technical audience without either overwhelming or oversimplifying.
  • Strong analytical instincts: comfort with data, and the judgment to notice when a number looks wrong and say so.
  • Strong organizational skills. You will hold a queue of concurrent requests with hard, client-driven deadlines, across multiple systems and stakeholders.
  • Fluency with AI tools and a real interest in using them to work better - drafting analysis, building deliverables, and automating what should be automated.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Google Workspace (Sheets, Slides, Docs). Exposure to SQL, Python, or Jupyter notebooks is a plus, as is any background in consumer lending, credit risk, or fraud.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and comfort with ambiguity - a good share of requests arrive as a pasted client quote with no context attached.

Perks and benefits All Zestys experience:

  • The opportunity to join a mission-focused company
  • People - the best part of Zest
  • Robust medical, dental and vision insurance plans
  • Annual bonus plan participation
  • 401(k) with generous match
  • Employee Awards and Recognition
  • 11 company holidays
  • Winter break (office closed between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day)
  • Unlimited vacation time
  • Employee Resource Groups and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion forums
  • Generous family leave policy (12 week maternity leave / 6 week paternity leave)
  • Phone and internet allowance
  • Employee gatherings, including quarterly Town Hall meetings

Our Burbank, CA area, hybrid model (typically 1 day/week) Zestys also enjoy:

  • Complimentary daily lunches from LA's best restaurants and a fully stocked kitchen
  • Beautiful, modern, dog-friendly office with lounge and gaming areas
  • Complimentary manicures, pedicures, and mindfulness sessions
  • Reimbursable membership to the onsite gym
  • Company happy hours, social events, outings, volunteer opportunities and much more!
  • Onsite car wash service
