Our Plant Utilities Technicians are responsible for start-up, normal operation, monitoring, maintaining, and shutdown of Plant Utility systems and equipment within Plant Utility mechanical rooms that support overall facility buildings. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, science-driven organization making a meaningful difference to patients worldwide.

When & where:

  • Location: Rensselaer, New York, United States

  • Working shift: Wednesday-Saturday 2:00pm-12:30am

  • Training shift: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm for approximately 3 months

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain high pressure steam and hot water boilers, controls, and associated equipment; maintain boiler and cooling tower chemical treatment program

  • Maintain all other Plant Utility equipment such as boiler pretreatment water, condensate return, natural gas, domestic potable water, tepid water, and wastewater

  • Review, monitor, respond to, and react to alarm notifications from the Building Automation Systems (BAS)

  • Perform Plant Utility monthly Preventative Maintenance

  • Plan and schedule outside contractors/vendors to perform scheduled and/or non-scheduled Preventative Maintenance or general work

  • Schedule, assign, complete, and review incursions specific to Plant Utility activities

  • Communicate and coordinate with each department and within Facilities Management when planned and unplanned work events occur

  • Maintain documents and records on all plant equipment and systems

  • Collaborate with other departments, contractors, and subject areas on scheduling repairs and maintenance of plant utility systems

This role requires:

  • AAS degree, preferably in an Engineering or Construction Technologies related area, and the following minimum amounts of experience for each level:

  • Plant Utilities Technician II: 2+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 5+ years of related experience

  • Plant Utilities Technician III: 5+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 8+ years of related experience

  • Plant Utilities Technician IV: 8+ years of related experience, or HSD/GED with 12+ years of related experience

  • Experience with or knowledge of high-pressure boilers and waste neutralization

  • Working with chemicals and steam

  • Participating in rotational on-call schedule

  • Prior experience in the maintenance and operation of a large-scale utilities plant is preferred.

Level will be determined based on qualifications relevant to the role

The environment and physical rhythms of this role:

  • Gowning: Full cleanroom attire (examples may include: including laundered undergarments, gown, facemask, hairnet, safety glasses, safety shoes and booties, latex gloves and the use of sanitizing agents during gowning process including IPA)

  • Ability to remove jewelry, makeup and nail adornments when wearing cleanroom attire

  • Ability to perform physical requirements for entirety of shift (up to 10 hours) in a clean room environment

  • Some physical requirements can include but are not limited to: bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting, squatting, walking, standing, driving, hand manipulation and ability to lift/push/pull up to 50lbs
