Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Aeronautical Engineer to join our Missile Flight Sciences team in Sunnyvale, CA! This position will have the exciting opportunity support the Aerothermal team, and the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Using various modeling & simulation methods and techniques to perform fluid dynamic analysis of varying levels of fidelity

Support the modernization of legacy aero environments to inform missile hardware design
-
Support post-test analysis for various test projects
-
Ownership of computational, physics-based modeling & simulations from start to finish (development, assessment, results & documentation)
-
Work and interact with multiple engineering fields across multiple sites
-
Present key findings and results to internal and external customers & stakeholders
-
Provide recommendations to support peer and customer reviews
-
Provide documentation and recommendations to data packages to support key discussions, present analysis data to engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and program milestone design reviews

Designs, develops, and tests a variety of power plants, aircraft, missiles, and parts, taking into consideration the most efficient use of the natural laws affecting flight. Establishes structural specifications, performs stress analysis, and conducts performance tests.
Basic Qualifications
-
Prior work experience or familiar with one or more of the following topics: aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, or computer programming
-
Understanding of inviscid vs. turbulent flows
-
Understanding of subsonic vs. supersonic flows
-
Programming experience in one or more languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
-
Strong mathematical, analytic, and data processing skills
-
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including MS Office proficiency
-
Able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance; US citizenship is required
Desired Skills
-
Developed understanding of parallel computing and its applications to CFD analysis
-
Experience or familiarity with grid generation using commercial tools (e.g., Pointwise, GridPro, SuGaR)
-
Experience or familiarity with generating CFD grids (2D or 3D, structured or unstructured)
-
Experience with one or more commercial CFD analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Siemens Star-CCM+, FUN3D, GASP)
-
Experience with PTC Creo
-
Experience with Linux environments and using High-Performance Computing systems
-
Academic knowledge or work experience with gas dynamics, rarified gases (including Direct Simulation Monte Carlo analysis), turbulence modeling, hypersonic flows, or aeroheating
-
Experience or familiarity with correlating test/experimental data with numerical model data and drawing conclusions
-
Strong technical writing proficiency
-
Knowledge or experience with testing & instrumentation including test procedure development, instrumentation definition, test direction, and post-test model correlation
-
Experience with modern collaboration tools, such as Jira and Confluence
-
Active or Current Top Secret clearance
-
Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $88100.00 - $163700.00

Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.

For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
