Purpose:

The Project Manager is responsible for independently leading and managing environmental projects from initiation through completion, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. This position provides technical and project leadership for environmental investigation, remediation, monitoring, and related projects while ensuring high-quality deliverables and compliance with applicable regulatory, contractual, and client requirements.

The Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and works closely with regulatory agencies, project teams, and subject matter experts to develop and implement effective environmental solutions. This position also supports business development, proposal efforts, client relationship management, and program growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects and maintain regular communication and coordination with clients, customers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Independently manage environmental projects from initiation through completion, maintaining accountability for project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety.

  • Lead the development of work plans, technical reports, and other project deliverables associated with the sampling, analysis, and reporting of contaminants and geochemical indicators across multiple environmental media.

  • Plan, direct, and oversee environmental investigations, remediation activities, monitoring programs, and field operations.

  • Assign, supervise, and review technical work performed by project team members to ensure deliverables meet applicable quality, technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed in accordance with established requirements.

  • Ensure field and project activities are conducted in accordance with corporate, contractual, and project-specific health and safety requirements.

  • Provide technical review and quality oversight for project documentation and deliverables.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts to execute environmental projects for federal, state, and commercial clients.

  • Apply knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations, and guidance to project planning, execution, and decision-making.

  • Evaluate project data and complex technical information to support informed project, technical, and business decisions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, project partners, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Support business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, preparing proposals, and contributing to program growth.

  • Mentor project staff and promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development within project teams.

  • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining high standards for quality and client service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ten (10)+ years of project management experience in environmental consulting, remediation, or a similar setting.

  • Experience independently managing projects with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client relationships.

  • Experience working on environmental projects in Alaska.

  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to develop clear, concise, and accurate project documentation.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and delegate technical responsibilities effectively.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate data, synthesize complex information, and make informed technical and business decisions.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts.

  • Ability to mentor, develop, and share technical and project knowledge with team members.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business and project management software.

  • Experience with one or more of the following preferred: Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Contaminated Sites Program, ADEC Solid Waste Program, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
