Right on pace with Target’s distinctive retail brand, Target Finance and Accounting are transforming for the better. As so much more than a behind-the-scenes number-cruncher, you will be a truly collaborative partner with a seat at the table. Within Finance, you will enjoy the interesting challenges of the competitive retail space and see your contributions come to life in virtually every area of this dynamic enterprise.

A role in Controllership and Accounting calls on your skills for quality accounting and team leadership, while providing thoughtful and responsive support, expertise and guidance to a variety of key partners and leaders across the enterprise. This role has a front row seat to many of Target’s key strategic initiatives and is critical to ensuring the success of these initiatives.

As the Sr. Manager, Inventory Accounting Modernization, you will:

  • Translate complex accounting and business needs into clear requirements, decisions, milestones, and outcomes in partnership with Finance, Technology, and business teams.

  • Anticipate accounting, systems, data, and operational risks and ensure appropriate controls are embedded in future-state processes.

  • Lead Inventory Accounting's approach to testing, parallel analysis, reconciliation, issue resolution, and readiness assessment.

  • Shape the transition and cutover strategy, ensuring Accounting teams are prepared to operate successfully in the new environment.

  • Build alignment across cross-functional teams, navigate competing priorities, and lead strategic conversations around roles, responsibilities, and key design decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enable automation, strengthen controllership, and increase the team's capacity for high-value analysis, insights, and financial reporting.

  • Influence upstream business processes and operational decisions by identifying accounting risk, improving transparency, and ensuring strong financial governance.

  • Collaborate across Controllership and enterprise Finance teams to support evolving business models, ensure accounting compliance, and improve financial predictability.

Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Accounting or Finance.

  • Minimum of 6–8 years of accounting, finance, or relevant business experience.

  • CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and inventory accounting, with an understanding of accounting controls, SOX compliance, controllership responsibilities, data, and financial systems.

  • Experience leading or playing a significant role in large-scale finance, accounting, or technology transformations.

  • Ability to connect technology decisions to accounting, finance, operational, and broader business outcomes.

  • Strong strategic thinking and structured problem solving, with the ability to assess risk and navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility across multiple levels and functions.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
