Job Summary:

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

The AWBS Supervisor is responsible for leading the Aircraft Weight and Balance System (AWBS) function in support of GA-ASI UAV aircraft operations, modifications, and sustainment. This role oversees the accuracy, integrity, and availability of weight and balance data and documentation across the GA-ASI UAV fleet and ensures compliance with applicable technical orders, customer requirements, and company procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Software Oversight: Supervise the operation and sustainment of AWBS software tools, ensuring system data matches weight and balance technical orders.

  • Flight Clearance Assurance: Oversee the generation and verification of Automated Form F (AFF) for each mission, ensuring aircraft remain within safety and Center of Gravity (CG) limits.

  • Team Leadership: Train, schedule, and manage AWBS technicians.

  • Compliance & Auditing: Enforce DoD and Air Force regulations, ensuring all calculation protocols strictly adhere to safety directives.

  • Lead and supervise a team of AWBS technicians/analysts supporting GA-ASI UAV programs.

  • Manage the creation, update, and maintenance of AWBS records for GA-ASI UAV aircraft, including new production, modifications, repairs, and configuration changes.

  • Review and approve weight and balance calculations, forms, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable technical data (e.g., TOs, OEM manuals, customer directives).

  • Coordinate with Mass Properties engineering, configuration management, logistics, flight operations, and maintenance teams to ensure AWBS data accurately reflects current aircraft configuration.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for AWBS processes, data entry, quality checks, and documentation control.

  • Plan and schedule AWBS workload, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet program milestones and customer deadlines.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to AWBS personnel on GA-ASI UAV–specific weight and balance practices, tools, and standards.

  • Support aircraft weighing events, including preparation, execution oversight, data collection, and incorporation of results into AWBS.

  • Conduct internal audits and periodic data reviews to identify discrepancies, drive corrective actions, and improve data quality.

  • Serve as the primary AWBS point of contact for GA-ASI UAV customers, program management, and internal stakeholders; provide briefings and status updates as required.

  • Support proposal efforts and new business by providing AWBS-related inputs, estimates, and technical expertise for GA-ASI UAV programs.

  • Ensure all AWBS activities are performed in accordance with safety, quality, and security requirements, including handling of controlled or classified data as applicable.

  • Maintain awareness of changes to AWBS software, technical orders, and regulatory guidance; coordinate implementation and training.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree and eight or more years of complex experience in aircraft maintenance. Additional professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) license required.

  • Demonstrated experience with aircraft weight and balance processes and documentation (military or civil).

  • Experience using AWBS 10.0 and 11.0 aircraft weight and balance software.

  • Strong understanding of aircraft configuration control and the impact of modifications on weight and balance.

  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience in an aviation, aerospace, or military environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical orders, engineering drawings, and maintenance documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy, with proven ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.

  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to work with databases or configuration tools.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to interface effectively with engineering, operations, and customer representatives.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required by program/contract.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior GA-ASI UAV background, such as:

  • Experience in MQ-9 or other UAV operations, maintenance, engineering, or configuration management; and

  • Direct involvement with MQ-9 or other UAV aircraft configuration changes, modifications, or sustainment activities.

  • Prior military experience in an aviation-related specialty (e.g., crew chief, avionics, weight and balance, flight engineer, loadmaster) or equivalent civilian experience.

  • Experience working with USAF or other government customers on MQ-9 or similar UAS programs.

  • Familiarity with configuration management systems and processes (e.g., ECPs, ECOs, baseline management).

  • Experience supporting flight test, fielding, or deployment of MQ-9 or other UAV/UAS.

  • Knowledge of applicable standards and guidance related to aircraft weight and balance and technical data (e.g., service technical orders, OEM manuals).
