Full job description

At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock and inspire performance for life. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. Our wearable technology and analytics platform help individuals optimize recovery, training, and long-term health. WHOOP is seeking a Product Designer II to join our Design Systems team and help build, evolve, and maintain the foundational design systems that power the WHOOP experience. In this role, you'll work closely with designers, engineers, and product partners to create scalable, accessible, and beautifully crafted systems across web, iOS, and Android. You'll play a key role in developing the next generation of the WHOOP Design System (DS2), helping teams deliver consistent, high-quality experiences while improving the efficiency and effectiveness of how we design and build products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and evolve key elements of the WHOOP Design System, including design tokens, styles, UI components, patterns, and layout templates, ensuring consistency, scalability, and high-quality execution across platforms.

  • Help architect and build the next-generation WHOOP Design System (DS2), partnering closely with engineering to establish foundational components, system architecture, and workflows that support web, iOS, Android, and Figma.

  • Maintain and govern Design System Figma libraries, ensuring alignment with production code, supporting evolving product needs, and providing guidance to designers and engineers through documentation, collaboration, and dedicated support channels.

  • Partner with design leadership, product designers, and engineers to translate complex requirements into thoughtful system solutions, balancing visual craft, accessibility, technical feasibility, localization, and platform-specific considerations.

  • Contribute to Design System roadmap planning by identifying opportunities to improve the designer, developer, and member experience, incorporating cross-functional feedback, and leveraging AI and emerging tools to accelerate workflows.

  • Champion design excellence and accessibility by ensuring new system elements meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards, sharing expertise, and helping elevate the quality, consistency, and craft of product experiences across WHOOP.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience in product design, including hands-on experience contributing to, maintaining, or evolving a design system.

  • A portfolio demonstrating meaningful contributions to design systems, including examples of component design, system architecture, or improvements to designer, developer, or end-user workflows.

  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with exceptional attention to detail and an ability to create polished, accessible, and scalable UI solutions.

  • Proficiency in Figma, including experience working with component libraries, variables, styles, and design system documentation.

  • Understanding of design system architecture and front-end development concepts, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering partners across platforms.

  • Ability to independently drive design projects from problem definition through execution, navigating ambiguity, incorporating stakeholder feedback, and balancing competing technical and product requirements.

  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices, including WCAG standards, and an ability to apply inclusive design principles to reusable components and patterns.

  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
