Job Title: Assistant Superintendent Utility-Scale Solar Projects
Job Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports the on-site superintendent in delivering utility-scale solar projects safely, on time, and to high quality standards. This role focuses on coordinating daily field activities, supervising subcontractors, overseeing mechanical and solar scopes, and assisting with scheduling and quality control across large outdoor construction sites.
Responsibilities

Assist the superintendent with day-to-day supervision of field operations on utility-scale solar projects.

Coordinate and monitor subcontractor activities to ensure work progresses according to schedule, plans, and specifications.

Support the development, updating, and execution of project schedules, including sequencing of mechanical and solar installation activities.

Oversee quality of work in the field, conducting regular inspections to verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Help enforce site safety policies and procedures in alignment with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety plans.

Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure smooth integration of all scopes of work.

Assist with site logistics, including material deliveries, equipment placement, and workforce coordination.

Support documentation of daily activities, including progress tracking, issues encountered, and resolutions implemented.

Communicate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project stakeholders to address field issues promptly.

Help ensure compliance with union work rules and practices when working with union labor subcontractors.

Participate in resolving field conflicts or constructability issues by coordinating with engineering and project management.

Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.
Essential Skills
-
Proven experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent on construction projects.
-
Prior experience on utility-scale solar projects, supporting civil, electrical, or mechanical scopes.
-
Hands-on experience with mechanical scopes on construction sites, preferably within solar or renewable energy projects.
-
Strong experience in construction supervision and subcontractor management.
-
Working knowledge of project scheduling practices and the ability to support schedule development and updates.
-
Understanding of OSHA regulations and ability to help enforce safety standards on site.

Ability to supervise outdoor construction work and monitor quality and productivity in the field.

Effective communication and coordination skills for working with subcontractors and project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with electrical scopes on construction or solar projects.

Experience working with union subcontractors and union labor on construction sites.
-
CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST certification.
-
Knowledge of electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E.

Experience working with EPC contractors or renewable energy developers.

Experience in large-scale construction, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

Work Environment
This role is based on active utility-scale solar construction sites in Illinois, with one position available at each of several project locations. Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, with access to a site trailer for meetings, planning, and administrative tasks. The schedule follows a day shift, with typical hours anticipated around 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and requires flexibility to adjust start and end times as project needs dictate. All on-site labor is union labor, and the Assistant Superintendent works closely with union subcontractors and crews. The environment is fast-paced, field-focused, and safety-driven, with an emphasis on adherence to OSHA standards and electrical safety practices. Standard construction site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required at all times.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peoria, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
