Full job description

Responsible for operational processes within the Internal Audit department, including the planning and execution of financial, compliance and operational audits, in accordance with the Internal Audit Plan. Assists the Director of Internal Audit in the development and implementation of audit policies and procedures necessary to ensure adequate control of the credit union 's assets and adherence to regulatory compliance requirements, policies, and procedures.

  1. Supervises partners in Internal Audit, including developing the technical, supervisory, and leadership skills of subordinates. Manages team performance and administers individual performance activities including hiring, partner coaching and development, evaluating job performance, and administering disciplinary action as required. Provides technical assistance to auditors I & II including leading audit discussions and presents results of risk assessments, audits and data analysis. Ensure assigned business units are operating efficiently and reliably, are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and are performing at a high level. (25%)

  2. Performs and manages risk-based audits of complex activities in accordance with the internal audit program and professional audit and accounting standards (FASB, IIA, ISACA). This includes the development of audit scope and audit procedures, the collection and analysis of data, and preparation of audit reports on the adequacy and effectiveness of controls. (15%)

  3. Assists with the coordination of WPCU’s internal audit program with outside auditors. This includes coordinating the approach and scope of WPCU’s annual external audit review, conducting audits of WPCU activities, internal controls, compliance programs, and accounting procedures. (15%)

  4. Estimates audit hours, tracks and reports on service level agreement (SLA) metrics, internal audit results, and remediation efforts. (15%)

  5. Appropriately identifies and evaluates internal and external risk, internal controls and technical data to deliver risk assessments to credit union leaders in a clear and concise manner. (10%)

  6. Staying current on certifications and continued education using this to make ongoing continuous improvements in the WPCU IA program. (10%)

  7. Serves as key stakeholder with the credit union’s board level Audit Committee by assisting with development of agenda, recommendations, presentations, and minutes. Participates on other governing bodies as assigned. (5%)

  8. Manages continuous monitoring activities to detect and analyze changes in risk. (5%)

Required Skills

The Manager, Internal Audit must possess demonstrated knowledge and experience in internal auditing of depository financial institutions. The following are also required:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university in a business-related field.

  2. 7 or more years of related experience required, including at least 3 years of management

experience in a financial institution or related organization and at least 3 years of experience as

an internal auditor in a financial institution or in an external audit firm with direct experience

auditing financial institutions.

  1. Advanced experience applying audit, risk, or compliance acumen in a complex operational and highly regulated environment.

  2. Strong analytics, query and/or automation skills (SQL, Advanced Excel and Access).

  3. Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and mentor others.

  4. CPA, CIA, CRCM, CAMS or equivalent designation required.

  5. Strong knowledge of consumer protection regulations, bank secrecy act, financial reporting and

electronic payments preferred.
