Full job description

Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients. Inkjet Technician – Production Location: Provo, Utah About the Role We are seeking experienced Inkjet Technicians to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our industrial inkjet printing systems. This is a hands-on technical role for someone who understands how inkjet printers work—not simply how to operate them. The ideal candidate has significant experience troubleshooting industrial inkjet equipment in field service, manufacturing, or technical support environments. Former Field Service Engineers and Field Service Technicians from the industrial inkjet industry are strongly encouraged to apply. You will work closely with Production, Engineering, and R&D to maintain printer performance, resolve equipment and print-quality issues, execute maintenance and calibration procedures, and improve production reliability. What You'll Do

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial inkjet printing equipment.

  • Diagnose technical issues involving:

  • Printheads and jetting performance

  • Ink delivery and fluid systems

  • Electronics, sensors, cabling, and controls

  • Motion systems, encoders, and mechanical alignment

  • Printhead positioning, registration, and calibration

  • Image-quality defects and print artifacts

  • Perform printhead installation, replacement, alignment, cleaning, and recovery.

  • Execute preventive maintenance and scheduled service procedures.

  • Perform printer setup, calibration, and verification according to established procedures.

  • Troubleshoot image-quality issues such as missing nozzles, banding, registration errors, density variation, and lines.

  • Respond to equipment failures, identify root causes, and restore equipment to a controlled production state.

  • Document repairs, maintenance activities, equipment conditions, and recurring issues.

  • Follow and help improve SOPs, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Support installation, qualification, and introduction of new printers, printheads, and equipment upgrades.

  • Work with Engineering to escalate complex or recurring technical problems.

  • Train production operators on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance.

  • Participate in continuous-improvement efforts focused on uptime, reliability, print consistency, and yield.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with industrial inkjet printing equipment, preferably in field service, technical service, equipment engineering, or manufacturing support.

  • Previous experience as an Inkjet Field Service Engineer, Field Service Technician, Printer Service Engineer, or Technical Support Engineer is highly preferred.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Practical understanding of industrial inkjet printer architecture and print processes.

  • Experience with several of the following:

  • Industrial inkjet printheads

  • Ink and fluid delivery systems

  • Nozzle testing and printhead recovery

  • Printer calibration and alignment

  • Image-quality troubleshooting

  • Sensors, electronics, and control systems

  • Motors, encoders, and motion systems

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and precision alignment

  • Preventive maintenance and equipment diagnostics

  • Experience with printheads or printing systems from manufacturers such as Epson, Seiko, Ricoh, Kyocera, Xaar, Konica Minolta, Fujifilm Dimatix, or similar technologies is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical degree, military technical training, or equivalent industry experience preferred.

  • Extensive relevant inkjet experience may substitute for formal education.

  • Comfortable using hand tools, measurement equipment, and diagnostic tools.

  • Able to troubleshoot complex equipment systematically and independently.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to document technical work clearly and collaborate effectively with Production and Engineering teams.

  • Willingness to learn new printing technologies, processes, and equipment.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role The strongest candidates are technically curious and want to understand why a printer is behaving the way it is, rather than simply following operating instructions. You may be a particularly good fit if you have spent several years servicing industrial printers in the field and are interested in applying that experience in a manufacturing environment with deeper ownership of the equipment and process. The goal of this role is to build a production technical team capable of diagnosing problems, identifying root causes, and returning printers to production with minimal dependence on Engineering.
