Job Title: Systems Engineer Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
Job Description
This Systems Engineer role focuses on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for a Tactical Control System program that supports advanced submarine systems for the United States Navy and the Royal Australian Navy. You will work as part of an agile, cross-functional team to develop, deploy, and maintain complex systems, with a strong emphasis on SysML modeling using tools such as Cameo and MagicDraw. The position offers the opportunity to help expand MBSE practices, support and train customers, and contribute to making one of the worlds most advanced submarine tactical control systems even more capable.
Responsibilities

Serve as a systems engineer on an agile, cross-functional team responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced submarine tactical control systems.

Independently execute Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities to identify program requirements and support analysis of system design using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).

Create, refine, and maintain system models in tools such as Cameo and MagicDraw to support system design, requirements traceability, and analysis.

Draft clear, testable, and well-structured system requirements in accordance with good requirements engineering practices.

Perform requirements analysis using tools such as DOORS to ensure proper traceability, completeness, and consistency of system requirements.

Apply systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and processes to support the full engineering lifecycle.

Conduct research on technical implementation options and challenges, and use the findings to develop solutions and designs for complex assignments.

Clearly convey concepts and design decisions through effective written and verbal communication to team members and stakeholders.

Recognize, document, and report information relevant to sound systems engineering design and risk identification.

Prioritize competing requirements and tasks, working both independently and collaboratively within the agile team and sprint structure.

Support and potentially lead MBSE-related training and guidance for internal team members and external customers as MBSE efforts expand.

Show initiative on assignments, exercise independent judgment, and execute projects professionally with guidance from lead and deputy systems engineers.
Essential Skills
-
Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering or a related science, engineering, or mathematics field, with 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Masters degree.

Experience executing Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
-
Proficiency with MBSE tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw, including experience creating and maintaining system models.

Clear understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and the engineering process.
-
Experience drafting system requirements in accordance with good requirements practices.
-
Experience working with or understanding of requirements analysis tools such as DOORS.
-
Ability to quickly grasp and apply new technical information and handle increasingly complex assignments.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts and design rationale.
-
Ability to recognize and report information relevant to sound systems engineering design.
-
Ability to prioritize competing requirements and tasks while working both independently and as part of a team.

Experience working with Agile programs, Agile methodologies, and participating on sprint teams.
-
Ability to conduct research on technical implementation and challenges and apply findings to develop solutions and designs.

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
-
U.S. citizenship, due to work performed within secure facilities and access to classified information.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Agile experience preferred, including familiarity with agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and iterative development.

Experience supporting or training customers in MBSE practices, tools, or SysML modeling.

Demonstrated initiative on assignments and the ability to exercise independent judgment while collaborating with lead and deputy systems engineers.

Interest in contributing to the growth and expansion of MBSE efforts across the program and with external stakeholders.

Ability to thrive in a growing organization undergoing restructuring, with opportunities for increased responsibility and career growth.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite in Manassas, with an expectation to work on location initially to integrate with the team and program environment. Over time, there is potential for increased hybrid flexibility, balancing onsite and remote work as responsibilities and performance allow. The team operates on a 9/80 work schedule option, providing the possibility of an adjusted workweek that includes every other Friday off. You will work within secure facilities on advanced submarine tactical control systems, using MBSE tools such as Cameo and MagicDraw, and requirements tools such as DOORS, in an agile, collaborative engineering environment focused on innovation, growth, and expanding MBSE capabilities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $48.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
