The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager, Learning Solutions to join our high-growth retail company. This role leads the enterprise learning strategy, curriculum architecture, and learning technology ecosystem that enables Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC) team members and leaders to perform safely, confidently, and consistently across our company-operated and franchise service center network. The role owns end-to-end learning solutions spanning onboarding and technical skill development for entry-level technicians through advanced capability and leadership development for experienced team members and store leaders.

This leader translates Valvoline’s business priorities and operational standards into modern, scalable learning experiences for company-operated and franchise locations, with particular focus on the expectations and learning behaviors of frontline, multigenerational talent. The role also provides strategic ownership of learning platforms and partners closely with Operations, Franchise leadership, HR Business Partners, Digital Product, Leadership & Organization Development, Safety, and other cross-functional teams to drive measurable business and people outcomes.

This role is pivotal in driving complex, strategic, cross-functional projects and leading change initiatives across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, change management expertise, and a proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale initiatives in fast-paced environments.

How You'll Make a Difference

Responsibilities:

Learning Strategy, Portfolio Leadership & Curriculum Architecture — Set and continuously evolve the enterprise learning strategy, multi-year roadmap, and end-to-end curriculum architecture for the field organization. Translate business priorities, growth plans, operating standards, workforce needs, and performance gaps into an integrated learning portfolio that builds technician proficiency, accelerates onboarding, supports career progression, strengthens leadership capability, and drives consistent execution across company-operated and franchise locations. Establish governance for instructional design, content lifecycle management, assessments, certifications, reinforcement, and train-the-trainer approaches.

Learning Technology, Innovation & Scalable Learning Experience Design — Provide strategic ownership of the learning technology ecosystem and modern learning experience design. Establish platform governance, content standards, user experience, reporting, integrations, permissions, data quality, release/change management, vendor relationships, and the LMS roadmap. Stay current on emerging learning trends, technologies, research, and best practices, and translate relevant insights into practical, scalable solutions for a frontline, deskless, multigenerational workforce, including mobile-first learning, microlearning, video, simulations, practice-based learning, social/peer learning, performance support, gamification where appropriate, and responsible use of AI-enabled learning.

Business, Operations, Franchise & Cross-Functional Partnership — Serve as a trusted learning advisor to company and franchise leaders. Conduct needs analyses, prioritize learning investments, co-create solutions with subject-matter experts, and ensure learning solutions are practical for service-center operations. Build alignment across Operations, Franchise, HR, Leadership & Organization Development, Safety, Digital Product, and other partners while balancing enterprise consistency with appropriate local flexibility.

Measurement, Insights, Continuous Improvement & Growth Enablement — Define learning KPIs and evaluation methods that connect participation, proficiency, and behavior change to business outcomes such as speed-to-productivity, retention, safety, customer experience, operational consistency, leadership readiness, and performance. Use learner feedback, operational data, platform analytics, and experimentation to continuously improve solutions, communicate impact to senior leaders, and build repeatable deployment models and rapid-content capabilities that help the organization scale growth and absorb change without sacrificing safety, quality, or team member experience

Team, Vendor & Program Leadership — Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Learning Solutions team, creating clear accountability, strong operating rhythms, and an environment of innovation and continuous improvement. Build team capability in modern learning design, learning technology, consulting, measurement, and execution while ensuring resources are deployed against the organization’s highest-priority capability needs. Lead vendor and partner relationships and establish quality, delivery, and performance standards across the learning portfolio.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Education, Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Master’s degree in a related discipline preferred.

  • Relevant certifications such as CPTD, APTD, instructional design, project/change management, learning technology, or coaching certifications are preferred but not required.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in learning, training, instructional design, talent development, or a related field, including significant experience designing and scaling learning for frontline, deskless, retail, hospitality, service, manufacturing, or similarly distributed workforces.

  • 3+ years leading people, teams, major programs, or enterprise learning portfolios.

  • Demonstrated experience owning curriculum strategy and lifecycle management, LMS/LXP administration or product ownership, cross-functional stakeholder leadership, and enterprise-scale implementation.

  • Experience demonstrating measurable business impact from learning solutions required.

  • Experience supporting franchise or mixed company/franchise operating models; technical or skills-based training; high-growth/multi-site organizations; acquisitions or large-scale change; and learning technology transformation.

  • Enterprise learning strategy and curriculum architecture

  • Modern instructional design and adult-learning principles, with demonstrated expertise in designing engaging, modern learning experiences for a multigenerational, frontline workforce, including mobile-first, digital, social and technology-enabled approaches.

  • External orientation and learning agility; demonstrated curiosity and ability to stay current on emerging learning practices, technologies, research, and workforce trends and translate them into business-relevant solutions.

  • Mobile-first, microlearning, video, simulation, practice-based, social and performance-support approaches

  • Learning technology strategy and LMS administration/product ownership; Schoox experience strongly preferred

  • Responsible application of AI and emerging technologies to content creation, personalization, practice, coaching, and knowledge access

  • Strong business and operational acumen; ability to translate performance needs into practical learning solutions

  • Learning measurement, analytics, experimentation, and executive-level storytelling with data

  • Franchise and field stakeholder partnership; influence across complex matrixed organizations

  • People leadership, vendor management, project/program management, and change leadership

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, consultation, prioritization, and problem-solving skills

  • Bias for action, curiosity, innovation, learner empathy, and disciplined execution
