Full job description

The NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools (METRO) is seeking a part-time Associate Research Scientist to support data analysis and dissemination of project findings.

The Associate Research Scientist will support qualitative data analysis and dissemination for a research project examining the experiences, narratives, and intergenerational knowledge-sharing of Black mothers and daughters.

Responsibilities will include organizing and coding interview data, identifying themes and patterns within and across participant narratives, and contributing to community-facing research products, including an in-person convening.

The ideal candidate will bring strong qualitative research skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based research with Black families and youth.

This position is expected to be remote.

The NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools advances equity-focused, evidence-based research and programming. Its specialized sub- units provide technical assistance, professional learning, research, program evaluation, and youth development initiatives, including college readiness and youth-led advocacy. NYU Metro Center has extensive experience addressing educational inequity, segregation, disproportionality, discrimination, and social injustice.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

  • Required Education: Master degree or higher

  • Required Experience:

  • Experience in qualitative data analysis

  • Experience with multicultural communities or families, experience analyzing data from children/adolescents

  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thematic analysis, organizing qualitative datasets, qualitative data management software (e.g. Nvivo or Atlas ti,) familiarity with CRT, Black feminist thought, culturally responsive research, intersectionality.
