Job Description

The Process Technician sets up, processes, and qualifies precision parts while closely monitoring production lines to ensure consistent quality, safety, and efficient machine performance. This role focuses on verifying materials against the production bill of materials, optimizing cycle times, and systematically troubleshooting machines, molds, and processes to maintain high standards of product size, appearance, and functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor production lines to ensure consistent output, quality, and adherence to production standards.

  • Verify that all materials and component part numbers match the production bill of materials (BOM) before and during runs.

  • Set and adjust cycle times to support standard efficiency while balancing quality and productivity requirements.

  • Set up, repair, and troubleshoot machines to produce quality parts and minimize downtime.

  • Stop presses for color changes and purge remaining material in accordance with work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Perform mold changes, including tool pulls and tool sets, to support production schedules and product requirements.

  • Ensure molds and molding machines operate at maximum performance by monitoring process conditions and making necessary adjustments.

  • Inspect first-piece production to confirm parts meet size, appearance, and functionality specifications before releasing the line to full production.

  • Perform in-process production inspections to verify ongoing compliance with quality standards.

  • Notify Quality personnel promptly when defects are detected and collaborate to resolve issues.

  • Analyze problem areas when parts do not meet quality specifications and make precise process adjustments to correct size, appearance, and functional issues.

  • Maintain and complete all required reports, records, and logbook entries accurately and on time.

  • Communicate shift issues and pass-down information clearly to the next team to ensure continuity of production and troubleshooting efforts.

  • Work with supervisors to determine daily production priorities and address mold and machine issues in a timely manner.

  • Continuously pursue the best possible line quality and productivity by applying standardized work practices and suggesting improvements.

  • Apply and help improve standardized work practices, SOPs, and GMP procedures to enhance process consistency and reliability.

  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, maintain good housekeeping, and follow GMP practices throughout the production area.

  • Systematically troubleshoot machine, mold, and process issues while minimizing production disruption and scrap.

  • Balance production efficiency with first-piece and in-process quality requirements to meet customer and internal standards.

  • Coordinate shifting production priorities, equipment issues, and pass-down information across teams and shifts to maintain smooth operations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management in support of production, quality, and continuous improvement goals.

Essential Skills

  • Strong functional knowledge of machine functionality, mold changes, production BOM verification, and cycle-time setting.

  • Ability to set up, operate, and adjust production equipment to achieve optimal performance and quality.

  • Proficiency in systematically troubleshooting machines, molds, and processes to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Ability to make precise process adjustments so parts consistently meet size, appearance, and functionality specifications.

  • Working knowledge of standardized work practices, SOPs, and GMP principles within a production environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and follow all established safety rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Attention to detail in performing inspections, verifying materials, and completing reports and logbook entries.

  • Effective communication skills to share shift information, coordinate priorities, and collaborate across departments and shifts.

  • Self-motivated and quality-focused approach, with a strong sense of productivity and responsibility for line performance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Technical degree in a process-related field preferred.

  • Experience with mold changes, mold repair, and mold maintenance in a production environment.

  • History in production processes involving precision parts and machine setup.

  • Familiarity with process control concepts and continuous improvement practices.

  • Ability to read and interpret production documentation such as BOMs, work instructions, and SOPs.

  • Comfort working with mechanical systems and performing basic mechanical troubleshooting and adjustments.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage shifting priorities, documentation, and pass-down information.

  • Reliability and adaptability to work on a 2nd shift schedule as part of a production team.
