Scope of Job

Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment in research.

Performs research work as required within project assigned.

Description of Duties

The following is a listing of typical duties that may be applicable to the position:

Developing, testing, and analyzing research projects using large family-based data sets; Analysis of multiomics data in families; Provides guidance and support to PhD students with their dissertation projects as needed; Incorporation of machine learning into multiomics analysis; Aid with the development of a platform for the integration of all multiomics data; Writing narrative summaries of research results, and related tasks under the supervision of the faculty member assigned; Assisting with the preparation of progress reports as needed; Publishing in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned; Presenting research findings at relevant symposium and research conferences; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Doctoral degree in Biology, Statistics, Computing, Human Genetics or related field from an accredited university.

Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications, including Python, R, and SOLAR .

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

As part of their essential duties, employees in these roles are expected to maintain a consistent, in-person presence on campus at their assigned locations. Limited exceptions may apply for positions that are approved as hybrid or fully remote in accordance with UTRGV policies.
