Full job description

About Yuzu Yuzu is rebuilding health plan administration from scratch. We bring disconnected systems together in one platform that gives employers more control over their health plans and helps members understand and use their benefits. Our team is small, moves fast, and cares about craft. Insurance affects how people get care and how businesses spend their money. We think it deserves thoughtful design.

The Role We’re looking for a creative brand designer to shape how people see and understand Yuzu. You’ll work across our website, sales materials, diagrams, presentations, merchandise, and whatever else we dream up. You’ll have room to develop a visual point of view and carry ideas from an early sketch to the finished work. A central part of this job is understanding how health insurance works. You’ll need to ask questions, follow the details, and understand the subject well enough to explain it to someone else. An insightful diagram can make a complicated process clear in seconds. We want someone who enjoys finding that explanation. You should care about both what the work says and how it looks. We want original ideas, strong visual judgment, and the skill to make those ideas real.

What You’ll Do

  • Build the brand. Develop Yuzu’s visual language across typography, color, illustration, photography, motion, and layout.

  • Make insurance understandable. Create diagrams and visual explanations that help employers, brokers, members, and partners understand complex topics. Work with our team to keep each explanation accurate.

  • Design the website. Create pages that explain our products, tell a clear story, and give people a reason to keep reading.

  • Help us sell. Turn product capabilities and insurance concepts into clear presentations, one-pagers, and other sales materials.

  • Make things people want to keep. Design merchandise, printed materials, and event experiences with care and personality.

  • Bring new ideas. Find visual stories, formats, and creative opportunities we haven’t thought of yet.

What We’re Looking For Creative thinking You have ideas of your own. You explore unexpected directions, find useful visual metaphors, and make work with a clear point of view. Your portfolio shows curiosity and range. An interest in how things work You want to understand the system behind the design. You’ll learn how plans are funded, how claims are paid, who makes decisions, and where Yuzu fits. You can spot a gap in your understanding and work through it. Clear visual explanations You can turn a dense document or a long conversation into a diagram that helps someone understand something new. You know which details matter, how to show relationships, and when a simpler explanation becomes misleading. Strong craft You care about typography, composition, hierarchy, and the small details that make work feel complete. You can carry that care across a website, a presentation, and a shirt. Ownership You can define a problem, explore ideas, ask for useful feedback, and finish the work. You’re comfortable with open questions and can decide what to do next.

Location and Culture We work together in person, five days a week, at our NYC office near Union Square. You’ll work closely with people across the company. We value direct feedback, independent judgment, and people who take the time to understand a problem before they solve it.

Benefits

  • $120k – $160k plus equity depending on experience

  • Unlimited vacation days

  • Medical, dental, & vision insurance

  • 401K with 1% match

  • Unlimited AI tokens & tool budget — Cursor, Claude, Codex, you name it

  • Apple equipment

  • Free lunch daily and plenty of food and drinks

  • $3k in reimbursement for classes and conferences

Applying Send us your portfolio. We’d like to see original ideas, strong execution, and work that makes a difficult subject easier to understand. Include a brief explanation of what you were trying to communicate and the choices you made.
