Full job description
Description We are looking for a Part-Time HR Generalist to provide on-site human resources support for a Contract position based in Monterey Park, California. This role combines broad HR partnership with hands-on payroll administration, supporting employees and supervisors across daily people operations. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of California employment practices, a service-oriented approach, and the ability to manage sensitive matters with accuracy and professionalism.
Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day HR support for the site, including recruiting for hourly staff, coordinating onboarding for new employees, and handling employee separations with care and compliance.

Advise supervisors on workplace policies, performance concerns, documentation standards, and corrective action steps while elevating complex employee relations issues when needed.

Lead payroll activities on a biweekly schedule by reviewing time records, correcting discrepancies, and helping ensure proper application of wage and hour requirements.

Respond to employee questions related to benefits and connect team members with the appropriate resources for enrollment, coverage, and plan-related support.

Promote a positive workplace through engagement programs, recognition efforts, and initiatives that strengthen inclusion and team culture.

Support safety-related HR processes, including workers’ compensation administration and coordination of return-to-work arrangements.

Maintain organized and compliant personnel documentation in accordance with federal, California, and local employment regulations.

Track required training and certifications to help ensure timely completion and ongoing workforce compliance.

Partner with finance on payroll reconciliation activities and assist with audits, reporting obligations, leave administration, accommodations, and required workplace postings. Requirements • At least 3 years of human resources experience, including HR generalist responsibilities and payroll processing in California.

Practical knowledge of employee relations, onboarding, benefits support, leave administration, and timekeeping review.

Experience using HRIS and payroll platforms; familiarity with Paylocity is strongly preferred.

Solid understanding of California employment law, wage and hour compliance, and employee recordkeeping requirements.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion while maintaining thorough and accurate documentation.

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to support employees and managers in an on-site environment.
