Duration: 03 Months
Location : San Francisco, CA - 100% onsite in the R&D laboratory. This role is expected to work in the lab all scheduled workdays; remote work is not anticipated.
Hours : 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with work schedule aligned to laboratory and team needs.
Initial 3-month contract with the possibility of renewal/extension based on business need, workload, and performance. No conversion to a permanent role is guaranteed.
Job Description:

This is a full-time, laboratory-based contractor role created to support a high volume of product stability work that must be completed within a tight project timeline. The contractor will work closely with approximately 4-5 formulators and will primarily own the day-to-day execution, tracking, and documentation of stability studies while providing additional hands-on formulation lab support as needed.

Set up, organize, label, place, pull, and track stability samples according to defined study protocols and timelines.

Perform routine stability evaluations and physicochemical measurements such as appearance, color/odor observations, pH, viscosity, and other defined test methods.

Maintain accurate stability trackers, laboratory records, and sample traceability; summarize data and identify trends or changes over time.

Promptly communicate missed pulls, unusual observations, test deviations, or potential stability failures to the responsible formulator.

Prepare laboratory batches, dilutions, or test samples as directed by formulators and support basic formulation work when stability workload allows.

Coordinate priorities across multiple projects/formulators and proactively manage daily and weekly testing schedules to meet deadlines.

Maintain good laboratory hygiene and safety practices and support routine instrument care, calibration checks, and readiness of commonly used lab equipment.

Support laboratory inventory, materials/sample organization, and general lab readiness so testing can proceed efficiently.

Provide clear, timely progress updates and work collaboratively with the formulation team; perform other related laboratory duties as assigned.
Required Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certificate, Associate degree, or coursework in Chemistry, Laboratory Science, Chemical Technology, or a related field preferred. A college degree is not required if the candidate has relevant hands-on laboratory experience.

Hands-on laboratory experience with the ability to work independently and safely in a formulation/R&D lab environment.

Ability to perform and document basic physicochemical testing, including pH and viscosity measurements, using standard laboratory equipment.

Strong organization and multitasking skills to manage a high volume of stability studies, sample pulls, measurements, and deadlines concurrently.

Accurate data recording and attention to detail; able to recognize changes, deviations, or potential out-of-specification results and escalate promptly.

Strong communication and collaboration skills to support 4-5 formulators at a time, provide timely status updates, and respond proactively to lab priorities.
Technology Proficiencies :
- pH meters; viscometers (e.g., Brookfield or equivalent); laboratory balances; temperature-controlled stability chambers/ovens; standard lab equipment; Microsoft Excel/Office for data tracking and summaries. Experience with electronic lab records, SAP, or PLM is a plus.
Preferred Attributes :
- 1-2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in consumer products, home care, personal care, or a related formulation environment; prior stability testing experience; familiarity with good laboratory practices, sample traceability, and instrument calibration checks; quick learner who is dependable, collaborative, flexible, and attentive to day-to-day lab needs.
