The Job You Will Perform:

The Riverdale Mill is currently seeking an Additives Technical Assistant -Paper. The mill produces Brite Top Liner and uncoated free sheets and currently employs approximately 725+ people.

The Technical Assistant is to be an assistant to the Paper Area Manager. This position will act as a resource for all facets of day-to-day operations in the Paper Machine, while designing systems to build long-term stability and reliability. The Paper Machine Additives Technical Assistant will be heavily involved in a broad spectrum of areas such as Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and People. They must help manage the safety, environmental, people, operations, and reliability performance of the Paper Machines.

The Technical Assistant will be heavily involved in a broad spectrum of areas including operations, maintenance, technical, and people.

  1. All safety and environmental results for the additives areas.

  2. Building, communicating, and executing consistent operating practices across all shifts.

  3. Developing and maintaining Operator engagement through communication, empowerment, and training.

  4. Assist in directing and leading the Paper Machine Crew Leaders with clear expectations and accountability.

  5. Investigating, resolving, and implementing process improvements.

  6. Interfacing with other departments to ensure quality parameters are achieved and maintained.

  7. Serving as operational support for reliability efforts, including MWS, Basic Care, IEPM, and RCFA.

  8. Serving as operational support for capital needs, including the development of FEL1 level of the Project Development Process (PDP).

  9. Providing support on project management and/or outage management during weekly/annual outages.

  10. Managing area costs and meeting budget.

  11. Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures (SOP), troubleshooting documents (TCC), and other training materials.

  12. Complete technical process evaluations and improvements

  13. Seek out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources

  14. Support improvements in a healthy and highly functioning basic care process

  15. Participate in the 5S program for the area, including leading 5S improvement projects as needed

  16. Participate in cost reduction program idea generation and implementation process

  17. Provide support for capital project development and implementation

  18. Fulfill weekend duty team leadership role for the FBU

The Skills You Will Bring:

  1. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Paper Machines Operations.

  2. A minimum of five (5) years of management experience

  3. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field

  4. A demonstrated record of safety commitment and results.

  5. Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety

  6. Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems

  7. Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels

  8. Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change

  9. Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
