What to Expect

The Senior Engineer - Scheduling & Blending Models provides corporate level leadership, consultation, and technical expertise for Refinery Operations scheduling and blending tools and work processes. Blending defined here as creating the blend recipe to hand off to operations. The position plays a central role in driving company-wide improvements and best practices related to scheduling and blending model development, work process implementation, data integration, model accuracy – maintenance and validation, usage, and reporting.

What You’ll Do

  • Providing expert-level technical services to the refinery sites in the following areas:

  • Maintaining and validating models yields, properties, operating costs, constraints, etc.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving model errors and issues.

  • Leading the Scheduling or Blending Models Users Group.

  • Crude assay updating.

  • Communicating and leveraging current internal and industry best practices, tools, and processes across the system.

  • Being a point of contact and a liaison to the planning and scheduling/blend recipe community.

  • Providing Technical guidance and consulting services to refinery sites, IT, and 3rd party vendors in the following areas:

  • IT support and maintenance of data interfaces, databases, and reports.

  • Software licensing, installation, and version upgrades across the system.

  • Engaging vendors on technical issues for scheduling/blend recipe tools and processes including product development, improvement, and repairs.

  • Internal and external benchmarking and performance metrics to understand the model accuracy and site capabilities and drive improvements.

  • Promoting a vision and strategy for Phillips 66 Refining in the area of Scheduling and Blending recipe models and work processes.

  • Interface and represent Phillips 66 Scheduling functions in industry events and meetings.

  • Working with LP Models consultants to efficiently integrate Scheduling models and Planning models or submodels.

  • Assisting with development and training programs for scheduling and blend recipe models and operations planning personnel.

  • Preparing and maintaining the associated technical content for Scheduling/Blend recipe documents – best practices, guidelines, training, etc.

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • 5 or more years of direct experience working with Scheduling and Blend Recipe modeling

  • 3 or more years of direct or indirect refining business experience in the field of economics, operations, process engineering, or fuels blending/scheduling

  • Intermediate proficiency with AspenTech APS Scheduling or MBO Blending Recipe software systems - desktop software, data interfaces, databases

  • SQL/Access Database knowledge/experience

  • Periodic travel is required to visit regional sites

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

  • Experience with LP models

  • Skills and proficiency with PIMS, HCAMS/HCOMET, PI/PI AF

  • Experience with KBC PetroSIM and PetroSIM kinetic models

  • Strong analytical/data management skills

  • Visual Basic, SQL Server proficiency

  • The ability to set direction and lead – strong networking and team building skills

  • Willing and able to positively influence others

  • Strong and effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Strong understanding of refining business drivers

  • Must be able to quickly develop and maintain internal and external respect and trust

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $160,200- $195,800.

Where a candidate offer falls within the posted range depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
