Job Duties

Concrete Industry Management Intern | Duininck Concrete

Duininck Concrete, headquartered in West Central Minnesota, serves its clients as industry experts, providing guidance and support for projects of any scale.

This position will provide hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Plant operations: Working at both portable and stationary concrete plants, including setup, operation, maintenance, and material handling

  • Batching: Learning batch plant controls, mix designs, and how orders are batched to meet project specifications

  • Quality management: Assisting with concrete and aggregate testing, sampling, and quality control documentation

  • Logistics and dispatch: Supporting truck scheduling, delivery coordination, and material inventory

  • Safety: Participating in site safety checks, toolbox talks, and plant safety programs

  • Sales and customer relations: Shadowing sales staff, learning how quotes are developed, and seeing how customer relationships are built and maintained

Essential Duties & Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist plant managers and operators with the day-to-day operation of portable and stationary concrete plants

  • Assist with batching operations and learn to interpret mix designs and project specifications

  • Perform and document quality control testing, such as slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder preparation

  • Help coordinate dispatch, deliveries, and material inventory

  • Support safety inspections, documentation, and compliance with company and regulatory standards

  • Assist the sales team with customer communication, quotes, and project follow-up

  • Help with production and quantity reporting

  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A full-time college/university student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Concrete Industry Management, construction management, civil engineering, or a related field

  • Interest in concrete production, materials, and the construction industry

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills

  • Self-starter with a proactive approach who can adapt easily to a fast-paced environment

  • Effective at multitasking while remaining detail oriented

  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team of professionals

  • Understand and adhere to all safety regulations and Personal Protective Equipment requirements

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification is a plus, but not required

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 80 pounds

  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch, climb, and sit

  • Work extended hours outdoors and in plant environments in a variety of weather conditions

Travel and some Saturday work are required
