Full job description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented GL Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Carson, California on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close processes, and partnering with operational teams to ensure sound accounting practices. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger experience, solid knowledge of payables and receivables activity, and the ability to work effectively across multiple priorities in a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities:

Record recurring and non-recurring journal entries for designated funds and intercompany transactions while maintaining accuracy in the general ledger.

Examine cash receipt activity and accounts payable batches to confirm proper coding, timely posting, and compliance with established accounting policies.

Manage month-end and year-end close tasks, prepare financial statements, and distribute reports within required reporting timelines.

Partner with field and program personnel to recognize grant revenue correctly, including accruals, billing support, and related reporting activities.

Complete monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve outstanding variances promptly.

Serve as a finance point of contact for supported locations by addressing questions related to payables, receipts, and financial reporting.

Monitor capital and deferred maintenance projects to help ensure costs are tracked and recorded appropriately.

Support audits and budget preparation by assembling schedules, performing research, training staff on accounting procedures, and providing backup coverage for other accounting team members as needed. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, including at least 18 semester units or 24 quarter units in accounting.

At least 5 years of accounting experience with strong hands-on general ledger responsibility.

Practical experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.

Ability to learn new processes and tools quickly while adapting to changing business needs.

Strong understanding of financial controls, account analysis, and reporting deadlines.

Experience using one or more major accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, or SAP.

Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance teams and field personnel.

Experience with non-profit/grant accounting is a plus.
