Overview

The Staff Research Scientist will work in a highly productive and collaborative research environment. Projects will generally focus on gene regulatory (epigenetic) mechanisms activated by early-life experiences, including stress and exercise, that influence brain development and function throughout the lifespan. The incumbent will apply knowledge of cellular and molecular biology, large-dataset data pipelines, stress neurobiology, and developmental neuroscience; conduct research with a high degree of independence; participate in experimental design; analyze data; and contribute to scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform experiments, analyze data, formulate conclusions, and create appropriate statistical visualizations, including graphs and charts, to report research and laboratory results.

  2. Independently process scientific data and develop and deliver presentations of research findings.

  3. Independently advance research projects, contribute original ideas, and collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary research environment.

  4. Educate, train, and supervise new students and other research staff who assist with projects.

  5. Meet regularly with the Principal Investigator (PI) and colleagues to review laboratory data, troubleshoot problems, prioritize tasks, and discuss newly

published scientific literature relevant to the field.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have portfolio of at least five (5) publications in peer-reviewed journals.

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in physics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

  • PhD in physics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of experience in a research setting required.

  • Previous supervisory/management experience, particularly supervising graduate students and lab personnel, required.

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, RT-qPCR, CRISPR, CUT&RUN/CUT&Tag, Western blotting, and work with animal models.
