Description

At 1898 & Co., a part of Burns & McDonnell, the Enterprise System Integration (ESI) team delivers technically rigorous solutions that modernize, integrate, and optimize electric utility grid and Operational Technology (OT) systems. We work directly within utility OT environments to implement grid management platforms, enable advanced operational applications, and integrate systems that support reliable, secure, and real‑time grid operations.

We are seeking a Grid Systems - Consultant to perform hands‑on technical consulting and system integration work within electric utility environments. This role is focused on the configuration, analysis, testing, and implementation of grid management systems and supporting technologies. The Grid Systems - Consultant executes defined technical workstreams under approved architectures, contributing directly to solution delivery across distribution and grid operations programs.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute technical consulting and system integration activities for grid and OT platforms, including:

  • Configure, test, and support deployment of grid management systems such as SCADA, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS within utility OT environments.

  • Implement and validate advanced distribution applications including power flow, state estimation, FLISR, VVO, and DER integration.

  • Perform system configuration, parameter tuning, and data validation activities to ensure accuracy, reliability, and operational usability.

  • Analyze OT system data, application outputs, and operational workflows to identify issues, validate results, and support system optimization.

  • Execute system testing, commissioning, and cutover activities, including:

  • Functional and integration testing.

  • Defect identification, triage, and remediation support.

  • Go‑live and post‑deployment stabilization support.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation such as configuration guides, test scripts, interface documentation, and operational support materials.

  • Participate in requirements definition and technical workshops, translating operational needs into system configurations and implementation tasks.

  • Support integration activities between OT systems and enterprise platforms, working within defined architectures to configure interfaces, data exchanges, and workflows.

  • Provide technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis support for grid system applications and integrations.

  • Support project execution by owning assigned technical tasks, tracking progress, and communicating issues and risks to senior consultants and architects.

  • Contribute technically to proposal and pursuit efforts, including solution descriptions, implementation approaches, and scope inputs.

  • Collaborate closely with solution architects, engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and project managers to ensure technical implementations align with architectural, security, and operational standards.

  • Comply with all company policies, safety requirements, and quality standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a related field from an accredited program and 3 years of relevant experience required.

  • Demonstrated enterprise system implementation skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Ability to independently solve problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.

  • Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).
