Full job description

Job Title: CAD/CAE SYSTEMS ANALYST

Location : Hampton, VA – 100% Onsite

Duration: 6 months with possible extensions

Pay: $30/hr.

Shift: Monday through Friday, 7am to 4pm est

Job Overview

  • Solidworks Experience is required

  • Conducts design, evaluation, modification, testing, and implementation of manufacturing fixtures, tooling, jigs, gauges, and related mechanical solutions used to support manufacturing operations.

  • Partners with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, technicians, and operators to understand manufacturing needs and translate requirements into practical fixture and tooling concepts.

  • Develops concepts, sketches, and detailed 3D models using SolidWorks and reviews proposed designs with Engineering and Operations prior to fabrication.

  • Develops prototypes and iterates designs based on operator, technician, and engineering feedback to improve functionality, usability, safety, quality, and manufacturability.

  • Prepares detailed drawings, bills of materials, and supporting design documentation required for fabrication and assembly.

  • Coordinates procurement and fabrication of components through internal machine shop resources, external suppliers, additive manufacturing, or commercially available components.

  • Supports assembly, installation, testing, and implementation of completed fixtures and tooling on the manufacturing floor.

  • Maintains design documentation through applicable change control processes and ensures CAD models, drawings, revisions, and associated records are maintained within PDM and applicable document management systems.

  • Recommends improvements to existing fixtures, tooling, design practices, and documentation standards.

  • Designs assembly jigs and fixtures used to locate, align, hold, clamp, join, weld, bond, or otherwise support components during manual manufacturing operations.

  • Designs adhesive application and curing fixtures to maintain component position and alignment during processing.

  • Designs inspection fixtures, gauges, measurement tools, and go/no go devices used to verify product or process requirements.

  • Develops ergonomic or mistake proofing fixtures that improve operator consistency, quality, safety, or productivity.

  • Creates detailed SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings, tolerances, bills of materials, and fabrication documentation.

  • Reviews fixture concepts and designs with Manufacturing Engineers, Operations, technicians, and operators prior to release.

  • Builds or coordinates prototypes and incorporates manufacturing floor feedback through iterative design improvements.

  • Coordinates fabrication internally or externally and procures commercial components required to complete designs.

  • Supports fixture assembly, installation, qualification or acceptance testing, and release for production use.

  • Updates existing fixture designs and associated drawings through established engineering change control processes and maintains current files and links within PDM.

  • Applies practical knowledge of machining, fabrication, additive manufacturing, assembly methods, and commercially available mechanical components when developing manufacturing solutions.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of manufacturing operations to improve tooling, fixtures, processes, quality, ergonomics, and productivity.

  • Understands design for manufacturability and develops solutions appropriate for the intended production environment.

  • Provides input to objectives and goals of the Manufacturing Engineering function or business unit.

Key Competencies / Knowledge Application

  • Identifies manufacturing needs and requirements and exercises discretion, independent judgment, and knowledge of mechanical design principles to develop practical tooling and fixture solutions.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, detailed drawings, dimensioning, and revision control.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerances, fits, materials, and common manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to translate informal manufacturing needs, sketches, operator feedback, and engineering requirements into controlled designs suitable for fabrication.

  • Works collaboratively with Manufacturing Engineers, Operations, technicians, machinists, suppliers, and operators throughout the design and implementation process.

  • Balances technical requirements with cost, lead time, ease of fabrication, maintainability, ergonomics, and usability on the manufacturing floor.

Job Scope / Complexity

  • Develops solutions to a variety of moderately complex to complex manufacturing tooling and fixture problems.

  • Manages assigned fixture and tooling activities from initial concept through design review, prototyping, fabrication, implementation, and documentation.

  • Adapts, enhances, and improves quality or value in existing tooling and fixture designs.

  • Works independently on defined design assignments while coordinating technical requirements and final design approval with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations.

  • Delivers results that directly impact manufacturing quality, safety, productivity, capacity, and achievement of department objectives.
