This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated professional to contribute to a leading academic medical center known for its commitment to excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Overview:

As a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist within our CL Psychiatry Service, you will play a critical role in providing expert psychiatric consultation to adult patients with complex medical and surgical conditions across a variety of settings, including Intensive Care Units, Transplant, RUSK Rehabilitation, Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and the state-of-the-art Kimmel Hospital Pavilion. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered, integrated care. Faculty also participate in our well-established, interdisciplinary Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) that provides rapid, expert evaluation and management of behavioral crises throughout the hospital. Our CL Psychiatry team provides a supportive and engaging working environment, and we are committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders in the field. The team conducts teaching rounds daily and meets weekly for a CL academic hour for ongoing team education and development. Examples of presentations during CL academic hour include ACLP webinar screenings, quarterly NYU Neuroradiology rounds, interdisciplinary case conferences, journal club, and trainee presentations.

The CL Psychiatry Service Director provides mentoring to support optimal professional development of our faculty attendings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Care: Provide expert psychiatric consultation, assessment, and treatment for admitted adult patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions in the context of complex medical and surgical illness (e.g., mood, anxiety, psychotic, cognitive, and adjustment disorders; delirium; capacity assessments; crisis management) as part of the CL Psychiatry service.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with medical and surgical services to provide evidence-based psychiatric consultation and treatment recommendations, supporting integrated, collaborative care across the hospital.

  • Education & Training: Participate in the education of medical students, psychiatry residents, and fellows (including CL Psychiatry fellows) through direct & indirect supervision.

  • Leadership & Innovation: Contribute to the development and refinement of policies, pathways, and protocols related to the management of psychiatric conditions in the inpatient medical setting, promoting best practices and the highest standards of care.

  • Board Certification: Board-certified or Board-Eligible in Psychiatry.

  • Licensure: Valid and unrestricted medical license in New York State (or eligibility to obtain one).

  • Experience: Fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (or equivalent hospital/medical psychiatry experience) is strongly preferred, with a demonstrated interest in complex medically ill populations.

  • Skills: Expertise in the assessment and management of psychiatric disorders in medically ill patients; strong consultation skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment; academically oriented with an interest in medical education and scholarly activity.
