Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU Department of Athletics’ primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance is responsible for the organization, administration, and oversight of the Athletics Department’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliance program. This position oversees student-athlete eligibility certification and the processing of financial aid, monitors coaches’ activities to ensure adherence to NCAA rules and regulations, and provides comprehensive rules education and guidance to departmental staff and coaches. The Senior Associate Director works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and ensure the Athletics Department’s policies, procedures, and activities remain consistent with applicable NCAA requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of NCAA Division I bylaws, rules, regulations, and compliance procedures.
-
Knowledge and experience using NCAA Legislative Services Database Internet (LSDBi).
-
Knowledge and experience using NCAA Compliance Assistant software.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
-
Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
-
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Minimum Education/Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
-
Three (3) years of related professional experience.
-
Division I intercollegiate athletics experience.
-
Experience in NCAA compliance at a national office, conference office, or member institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Knowledge and experience with Banner.
-
Knowledge of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and related compliance requirements.
-
Experience monitoring, analyzing, and reporting APR data.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Coordination - Operations
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Ensures all student-athletes, including transfer students, meet eligibility requirements to participate in intercollegiate athletics programs.
-
Coordinates with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) to process eligibility requirements for incoming freshmen and junior college transfers.
-
Reviews and processes eligibility documentation for new student-athletes in accordance with NCAA and MEAC rules and regulations.
-
Processes and certifies the continuing eligibility of current student-athletes.
-
Monitors student-athlete eligibility status and ensures timely completion of required certifications and documentation.
Function Collaboration and Campus Engagement

Ensures the University’s athletics programs comply with NCAA rules and regulations governing financial aid for student-athletes.

Collaborates with the Director of Student Financial Aid to monitor all financial aid awarded to student-athletes.

Monitors initial and renewable athletically related financial aid to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.
-
Reviews and monitors additional sources of countable aid, including work-study, employment, grants, and loans.
-
Ensures all student-athlete financial aid is accurately monitored, documented, and administered in accordance with NCAA requirements.
Function Leadership & Strategic Impact

Provides timely compliance information and updates regarding NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations, and policies to Athletics Department staff.

Communicates relevant NCAA and MEAC compliance requirements to University staff outside of Athletics, including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar.

Collaborates with campus departments whose responsibilities involve student-athletes or Athletics Department personnel on matters governed by NCAA and MEAC regulations.

Serves as a resource to University staff by interpreting and communicating NCAA and MEAC rules and policies as they apply to student-athletes and Athletics personnel.

Ensures consistent dissemination of compliance updates and regulatory changes across relevant University departments.
