Duties

As a team leader, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. Duties include: - Ensures that the work assignments of the team are carried out by performing a range of duties. - Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow and assures timely accomplishment of the assignments. - Monitors the status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. - Maintains current knowledge of regulations, laws and court rules applicable to civil litigation. - Provides a variety of direct legal support to one or more AUSAs. - Prepares a wide variety of legal documents, many of which are voluminous and complex in format. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications

GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrating the ability to provide guidance to others; supporting attorneys; preparing and processing a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and complex in format (e.g. pleadings, stipulations, motions, briefs, affidavits, complaints, orders and subpoenas); obtaining information from files; conducting factual and legal research and providing requested information to attorneys; aiding in the preparation and organization of evidence for use in trial. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your Department of Justice component has notified you in writing that you are a surplus or displaced employee eligible for CTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your CTAP eligibility, 2) you apply under the instructions in this announcement, and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria.
