Salary Range: $100,000.00 To $108,500.00 Annually

The 14th Street Y is a vibrant Jewish community center located in Downtown Manhattan. Each year, tens of thousands of New Yorkers of all ages, race, and ethnicities come to 14Y as members, visitors, or partners to experience our high quality and varied programs centered around arts and culture, early childhood education, summer camps, fitness and aquatics, Jewish life, and older adult services.

We are seeking an experienced full-time Building Engineer-Facilities Manager who will maintain and operate building systems to ensure safe, efficient and reliable facility performance at the 14th Street Y, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety infrastructure. The Building Engineer-Facilities Manager will supervise the Superintendent and contracted cleaners as well as oversee maintenance for the entire facili ty.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, heating/ boilers, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety.

  • Coordinate and oversee repairs, maintenance work, and vendor activities.

  • Manage contractors and ensure timely, high-quality completion of work.

  • Monitor and maintain building security systems and access control.

  • Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety requirements.

  • Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records.

  • Assist with maintenance budgeting, tracking, and cost-control processes.

  • Manage capital project planning for building systems and future integrations with new BMS systems.

  • Oversee general maintenance and cleaning of the building, working alongside the Superintendent to maintain and repair the building and it’s systems, acting as a mentor and teacher when necessary.

  • Manage and assist with work orders from program staff, with excellent communication, delegation, and time management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree required

  • 5+ years’ experience at a director level overseeing building engineering, maintenance, and construction operations required

  • S-95 certification (or obtain within one month of hire date)

  • Fire Safety Director certificate (or obtain within 9 months of hire date)

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant License preferred

  • Locksmithing license (or experience) strongly preferred

  • Supervision experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, heating, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems.

  • In-depth and current knowledge of DOB, FDNY and DOH code requirements.

  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems.

  • Experience with capital projects and construction projects, and strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to manage complex building projects from initial planning and development through implementation, completion, and evaluation.

  • Willingness to share knowledge and teach the Superintendent and others on the Facilities team about keeping the systems running smoothly.

  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and time management.
